In 1879, he described a new instrument he had invented, named the 'chromo-cytometer', which allowed alterations in the content of haemoglobin in the blood to be quantified. With this instrument, Bizzozero, in collaboration with Golgi, was able to study the variation of haemoglobin in various pathological conditions and during blood transfusions into the peritoneal cavity, a procedure that allowed considerable quantities of blood to be transfused without the dangerous reactions that often occurred before the discovery of blood groups. Cavour begins by taking up an offer by the unnamed recipient, by asking him to convey a letter to his rival Massimo Taparelli, Marquess of Azeglio (1798-1866), Prime Minister of Sardinia. He hopes that on the recipient's return from London he will employ his pen ' con quell'efficacia che le e propria' in the service of the cause of unification of Italy, by writing in the most powerful 'organo de' pubblicita' which has ever existed [The Times?]. He ends with good wishes for the journey. The letter reads: 'Preg. Sig. | Approfittando della gentile Sua profferta le mando que' compriegata una lettera pel Marchesa d'Azeglio. | Spero che al tuo ritorno da Londra [?] la penna per patrocinare con quell'efficacia che le e propria la causa dell'unificazione d'Italia nel piu potente organo de' pubblicita che abbia mai esistito | Le auguro bouon viaggio e le [?] gli atti della distinta mia Stima.'.

Two editions of these two 'open letters' appeared in Venice, the present (without printer), and one printed by Vincenzo Valgrisi: neither narrows the date down beyond the year. The Valgrisi edition is a completely different setting, is in Roman type, and has the printer's device on the title: but the collation is the same. Giulio "Delminio" Camillo (ca. 14801544), best known for his L'Idea del Theatro (which, like all his works, was published posthumously) was a famous man in his time, though he did make enemies, Erasmus and Dolet among them. He was invited to Paris by François Ier in 1530 to develop the ideas which ultimately were published in L'Idea del Theatro. But the king lost interest (the money stopped), and Camillo returned to Venice in 1543, dying a year later. 'In the Parisian affairs, C. intervened again, in this period, with two Orations addressed to Francis I: the first written for the release of the "preacher" Pallavicino, Carmelite theologian, imprisoned for a year for "vulgar sermons", and the second in thanksgiving for the obtained liberation' (translated from Treccani).
