TheItalia was a polar airship set to take off for polar flight during 1927-8, designed and piloted by Umberto Nobile to go on an expedition under Italian control, led by Nobile. Although the airship managed to reach the Pole, its journey back involved its crashing onto a pack of ice, resulting in the death of ten crew-men, while the other six members remained trapped. The expedition provoked an international rescue effort.The first edition of this work, an uncommon copy. Told by Davide Giudici, special correspondent of the Corriere della Seraon board of the Krassin, icebreaker who rescued Nobile and his surviving crew members.Illustrated with a frontispiece and thirty-two full page plates and a folding map to the rear.
