Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'The Adventures of a Gipsy Boy' is an evocative and personal account written by Gipsy Simon Smith, providing a unique window into the life and traditions of the Romani people during the early 20th century. This memoir traces the journey of a young boy as he navigates the complexities of a nom…adic existence, offering readers an authentic perspective on a culture that is frequently romanticized yet seldom understood from the inside. The narrative captures the essence of Gypsy life, detailing the daily struggles, the deep-seated communal values, and the rich folklore that defined Smith's upbringing. Through vivid storytelling, the work explores themes of identity, resilience, and the tension between traditional ways of life and a rapidly modernizing world. Smith's recollections serve as a vital historical record, preserving the language, customs, and spirit of his people. As both a literary memoir and a cultural document, 'The Adventures of a Gipsy Boy' stands as a significant contribution to the literature of marginalized voices. It is an essential read for those interested in ethnic studies, social history, and the enduring power of personal testimony to bridge cultural divides. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Wraps. Zustand: Fair. Format is approximately 5.25 inches by 7.5 inches. 146, [14] pages. Two photographs of the author. Cover worn, soiled, with edge tears and small corner piece missing. Signed by author with sentiment on title page, "Yours sincerely Gipsy Simon Smith Nov 1929". Name of previous owner also on title page. Gipsy… Simon Smith was known as the "Silvery Voiced Tenor from the Woods," Smith was an effective evangelist during his 40 years as a preacher of the Gospel. Growing up, Smith enjoyed listening to his father and uncle preaching and singing the Gospel. Smith was a composer and singer as well and many of his songs were published. He was often termed a "one-man show in the pulpit." For his work administering to British troops in France during the First World War King George VI made him a Member of the Order of the British Empire. Smith penned two booklets about his life, The Adventures of a Rolling Stone and The Adventures of a Gipsy Boy and Other Stories. It's in these books Smith wrote of his early life, his calling into the ministry and some of his adventures. Known for his quips, his sayings included: "Some people mistake perspiration for inspiration." At the end is an advertisement for the author's copyright songs and sheet music. Found on-line: What a wonderful, unique work of writing by Gipsy Simon Smith. It is a marvelous account of an incredible evangelist. I was genuinely gripped by his humble background and very moved by his own admission of his gypsy lifestyle. He was a man who had incredible faithfulness to the divine call of evangelism. Although poor, he exemplified the rich shades of the meaning of a loving family which he has intended his readers to know through this privileged book. I know that it will be loved by young and old alike, and widely used in our generation. I love the life histories of great men of yesteryear. These short stories, I believe, are superbly done and for all to enjoy. It has been said that every man's learning has depended on the knowledge of others. As this book is passed on, I trust that the love for evangelism will be deepened; the appreciation for the ministry will be learned; and the sacrificial devotion for Christ will be felt even as I was moved by reading this wonderful little book. Dr. Randy E. Taylor; West Union, West Virginia. Second Edition [stated]. Presumed first printing thus.
