First edition. xvi, 383pp., a photogravure frontispiece, many in-text and full-page black and white illustrations, 6 genealogical tables and a folding plan of Brussels. Top edge gilt. This is a volume in J.M. Dent's 'Mediaeval Towns Series', a series of 39 small illustrated books on individual mediaeval towns of the British Isles, of Continental Europe and of the Near East, originally published between 1898 and 1933. It provides a history and description of mediaeval Brussels together with brief accounts of some of its famous artists. The book is bound in the original light-blue cloth covered boards with gold titling and designs on the spine and the front board. The case of the book is in excellent condition with some shelf wear on the boards and light bumping to the spine ends and corners. There is a little wear to the titling and designs on the spine. The contents are tight and clean with some foxing on the tissue-guard to the frontispiece. There is no inscription.

General shelf and handling wear, including tanning and light discolouration to DJ, with tanning to pageblock, this leading into page edges. A small three digit number is stamped to FEP, and a vertical blemish is noted at front and rear endpapers; this is due to a disintegration of the adhesive tape used to secure the protective jacket in place, and is insignificant. Within, content is tightly bound and unmarked. Beautifully illustrated throughout, B/W images and illustrations are clear and bright, pull-out genealogical tables are in fine condition. CN.
