Light grey cloth with red sp. lettering, clean and unworn. 56 + 3 = blank (Unopened pub. notices), engraving centre t.p. 26 texts figs, 4 full page engravings at end, despite what it says on t.p. this seems to lack Gill's Appendix, also omits Gill engravings in 1921 1st ed., this being the 2nd ed.; inoffensive 1945-dated prev. owener's sig. top fr. end-paper, otherwise internally clean tight and unmarked. Price-clipped jacket clean but marred by slight spine end chipping, a small chip to fr.joint and another, a little larger to upper back joint, will add protective sleeve when ordered. 13 cn x 19 cm.

Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition Thus. Quarter green buckram with paper covered boards and paper title label to spine. Slight wear to edges of spine, a little marking to boards. Light foxing to page edges and endpapers, clean text throughout. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown endpaper (Geoffrey A.M. Whittall) and name to front free endpaper. Reprinted from the 17th edition of 1850, with woodcut of ices houses by Eric Gill on p165. An early production from Pepler and Gill, who later established the St. Dominic's Press. Signed by Author and Artist.

First edition, first impression. One of a limited edition of 250 numbered copies signed by both Tegetmeier and Gill on the limitation leaf. Quarto. Illustrations throughout by Denis Tegetmeier. Original black boards, titles to spine gilt. With dust jacket. Edges of boards lightly rubbed and toned, contents faintly toned. An excellent copy in the rubbed jacket with a chip from the head of the spine panel and a closed tear and crease to the lower panel.
