Zustand: Good. First edition hard back binding in publisher's original grey cloth covered boards, blocked and lettered scarlet back and front. 8vo. 7½'' x 5¼''. Close Quarters is the author's first novel, published in England by Hodder and Stoughton in 1947, it did not appear in the United States until 1963. Gilbert, who was appointed CBE in 1980, was a founder-member of the British Crime Writers' Association. Contains frontispiece Cathedral floor plan and a variant of which repeated to the text, and three crossword grids, 252 pp. From the private library and estate of Frank Williams. Text block edges browned, with light soing to the cloth covers and in Good condition, no dust wrapper. Member of the P.B.F.A. DETECTIVE | CRIME FICTION.…
