Zinovy.Known as Gilbert & George, Gilbert Proesch (born 1943) and George Passmore (born 1942) collaborate on brightly colored distinctive works of art. They are known for the highly formal appearance of their photo-based graphic artwork. Born in the Northern Italian South Tyrol region, Gilbert Proesch first studied in Austria and Germany before moving to London. His collaborator, George Passmore, was born in Plymouth in the United Kingdom and studied at the Dartington College and the Oxford School of Art and subsequently studied sculpture at St. Martins School of Art where he met Gilbert. While at school, they made The Singing Sculpture, a performance art-work. Wearing suits, they covered themselves in multi-colored powder and sang for substantial lengths of time. They later became known for "The Pictures" large-scale graphic work from photographs.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. A very clean copy. 'Soldier Boy takes us into the world of Harry Gilbert, a slim, young (in fact under-age) New Zealand trooper who served in the 7th Canterbury Mounted Rifles during the latter stages of the Boer War in South Africa. Though more than a century has passed since that conflict, Harry's tour of duty is brought vividly to life through these letters home to his family - the shooting of deserters, the terror of being under fire, the lack of food, the desecration of fine old Boer homes. The letters themselves form a remarkable series of documents, many written hastily on scraps of paper between skirmishes. Though several letters have been transcribed, retaining his idiosyncratic spellings, some are reproduced in facsimile format and are accompanied by fascinating photographs. Harry later returned to New Zealand and became a Presbyterian minister, ending his days in peace in Hamilton.
