The records, typically 3-5 pp. in length, consist of a short summary of the indictment along with a list of witnesses and jury members, if applicable. Each record is individually paginated and docketed in print on the verso of the final leaf, suggesting that they were issued individually as the term progressed and bound later for the reference of judges and advocates. In private practice, one of Alison's cases involved the aftermath of the bankruptcy of James Auchie and Company, a merchant firm incorporated in Jamaica as Dollar, Auchie and Company. The company declared bankruptcy in Glasgow in 1812, triggering many suits by creditors and counter-suits by the company's accountants.
