Tassello con titoli e fregi decorativi in oro al dorso a cinque nervature. Fogli di guardia marmorizzati e tagli in rosso. Stemma di Genova inciso al frontespizio da Giovanni Lorenzo Guidotti. Ricco apparato iconografico, costituito da 20 incisioni fra cui una grande pianta ripiegata "Genova: nel solo giro delle sue mura vecchie con l'esposizione delle Chiese e luoghi principali. Misurata a passi geometrici da Giacomo Brusco Ingegnere aiutante" (datata 1766), e da altre 19 tavole, di cui 15 ripiegate e quattro a piena pagina, alcune siglate sempre dal Guidotti. Marginali fioriture. Esemplare genuino, fresca impressione. Già pubblicata, in versione assai ridotta, nel 1768 e poi nel 1773, la presente costituisce una guida iconica della città di Genova per viaggiatori stranieri all'epoca del "Grand tour". Ne è autore l'ingegnere e cartografo Giacomo Agostino Brusco (Savona, 1736 - Genova, 1817), figura importante nelle modifiche urbanistiche e difensive di Genova a cavallo tra il XVIII e il XIX secolo. Il sontuoso corredo di tavole si deve a lui per la parte delle piante, ed a Giovanni Lorenzo Guidotti per la parte vedutistica. > ICCU\RMRE\001128, "Opera attribuita dal catalogo British Museum a Giacomo Brusco /1736-1817), cfr. Zustand: Very Good. Octavo (18 cm); [2], 155, [1] pages, and [13] folded leaves of engraved views, maps, and illustrations. Engraved crest of Genoa on title page. Text within typographic border. Bound in woodblock-printed floral polychrome wraps. Mottled edges. White background of wraps rather toned. Second, much expanded edition of this architectural guide to the city of Genoa, intended, one supposes, for French and Francophone tourists. (The 1768 edition was shorter and had only four illustrations.) The printer, named in the colophon as Adamo Scionico, chose good paper stock that holds the bite of the type and of the engraved plates, which are bright and fresh. The authors names do not appear in the text, but do appear in a very similar 1768 publication in Italian from the same printer, and they have been traditionally applied to the French text as well.…

In 8° (17x11 cm): (2), 268 pp. e 19 c. di tav. fuori testo delle quali 16 più volte ripiegate e compresa la grande carta di Genova posta in antiporta di cm 42x31 cm. Esemplare unico nel suo genere perché presenta la grande tavola di Genova e la "Veu de Genes" stampate su carta azzurra di grande qualità. Altre quattro tavole sono stampate su carta leggermente azzurrata. Non si conoscono altri esemplari stampati su carta azzurra. Legatura coeva in piena pelle maculata con titolo su fascetta in pelle e ricchi fregi in oro al dorso. Piatti interni foderati con bella carta marmorizzata coeva. Frontespizio leggermente ed uniformemente brunito e per il resto esemplare in ottime condizioni di conservazione. Vi sono dubbi sull'attribuzione di questa edizione, notevolmente, ampliata rispetto alla prima del 1768, non solo nella parte testuale. La prima edizione del 1768 presentava solo tre tavole. La maggior parte delle copie presenta, 18 tavole fuori testo, la nostra è completa e ne presenta 19 come da elenco delle tavole posto in fondo al volume. L'opera è di incerta attribuzione. C'è chi attribuisce l'opera a Carlo Giuseppe Ratti (noto storico ed autore di un'altra guida nota di Genova) e chi crede che l'autore sia Giacomo Agostino Brusco che sicuramente è autore della grande tavola di Genova. La grande carta, infatti, presenta il cartiglio "Genova nel solo giro delle sue mura vecchie con l'esposizione delle chiese e luoghi principali. Misurata a passi geometrici da Giacomo Brusco ingegnere Aiut. 1766". Scrive Schlosser riguardo a quest'opera: "La superba e ricca Genova. in cui l'arte era da tempo immemorabile una cosa di lusso e d'importazione, a differenza della sua rivale Venezia, possiede nell'età antica solo la guida piuttosto tarda del suo storiografo Giuseppe Ratti. che vuole appunto colmare questa lacuna". L'opera è la più esaustiva guida di Genova uscita nel settecento. Scritta in lingua francese, presenta magnifiche tavole più volte ripiegate. Rif. An attractive plan of Genoa with a 77-point key, engraved by Giovanni Lorenzo Guidotti after Brusco (1739-1817), a civil engineer.
