Il s'agit de la première édition portant le nom de l'auteur, Giacinto Dragonetti (1738-1818), l'édition originale ayant paru en 1766 sans nom d'auteur. L'ouvrage est paru deux ans après celui de Beccaria sur les Délits et les Peines, et il reçut un accueil presque aussi enthousiaste. Etat très satisfaisant (inversion dans les premiers feuillets, petite piqûre de vers en dos et petite galerie de vers en marge inférieure n'affectant pas le texte, petit choc à une coupe, très petit mq. en coiffe sup., bon exemplaire par ailleurs, ex-libris en garde). Rare copy of the first edition of the French translation, containing the entire Italian text of the "Trattato delle Virtu et de' Premi", with its French translation facing. This is the first edition bearing the name of the author, Giacinto Dragonetti (1738-1818), the original edition having appeared in 1766 without the author's name. The work appeared two years after Beccaria's "Dei delitti e delle pene", and it received an almost equally enthusiastic reception. Langue: Français.

Rarissima edizione cheÂsegue quella in Napoli, 1766, pubblicata anonima dal Gravier e, forse la ristampa, sempre del Gravier dell'anno successivo.…Nella prefazione il Graziosi peraltro afferma di averla pubblicata 'a pezzi' sul suo Corriere Letterario. Difficile quindi stabilire se trattasi della seconda edizione o della terza.ÂL'operetta ebbe comunque grande successo e molte ristampe (una ventina, con traduzioni in francese, tedesco, russo svedese, polacco e spagnolo) in particolare per esser stata intesa come 'continuazione' dei Delitti e delle pene del Beccaria (pubblicata solo due anni prima, nel 1764). A questo successo sicuramente molto contribui' la ristampa francese del Pancoucke che, dichiaratamente, presento' l'opera, anonima, come diretta continuazione del celebre trattato del BeccariaÂIn questa il Dragonetti, aquilano, allievo del Genovesi, prima avvocato, poi magistrato, coinvolto nella rivoluzione napoletana del 1799 per la quale dovette fuggire in Francia, contrariamente all'opera del Beccaria, invece di analizzare le punizioni, discute delle ricompense, dissociandole dalle punizioni. Inoltre non presenza riferimenti a sacre scritture e offre una concezione eroica della virtu' rifacendosi all'antichita' classica. Questi riferimenti permettono di considerare questo importante lavoro come conseguenza dell'influsso del Genovesi con una lettura dei premi in chiave aristotelico - tomista. Per Dragonetti, prima del premio per la virtu' vi e' la virtu' stessa, intesa come 'ricerca diretta e intenzionale del bene pubblico'. In sintonia con tutti i rappresentanti dell'illuminismo napoletano, l'autore focalizza la realizzazione delle sue idealita', attraverso l'abolizione del diritto feudale, argomento che tratto' con successo nell'altra sua opera: Dell'origine dei feudi, pubblicata nel 1788. Manuppella, Cesare Beccaria, n. 319.
