"Der Gedanke, Landschaften in metaphorischer Manier zu fotografieren oder zu malen, mag überholt erscheinen, aber für ein derartiges Mißverständnis, das Ergebnis der Launen der Kritik, gibt es keinen guten Grund. Allerdings deuten sich Zeichen und Wunder an, und David Parkers Bilder, die das intime Einbezogensein des Künstlers in die ganze Dramatik und das Ritual ihres Entstehens einschließen, stehen für eine zunehmend gültige Reihe sittlicher Werte und Einstellungen. Er macht eine eindeutige Aussage darüber, was die Kunst der Fotografie in den richtigen Händen noch zu bezwecken vermag. Seine Metaphorik ist eine faszinierende Mischung aus Objektivem und Subjektivem, aus Formalem und Allegorischem. Sie ist komplex, reich an Illusion und gleichwohl Fotografie. Zunächst sind es vielleicht der bloße visuelle Elan, die Schönheit, mit der er diese geheimnisvollen Ansichten übertragen hat, die uns zum Nachdenken über ihre eher subtilen und in der Tat nüchternen Tugenden anregen. Es steht außer Zweifel, daß wir Fotografie brauchen, die die Unmenschlichkeit des Menschen gegenüber der Natur und seine sträfliche Mißachtung des Gefüges unseres Planeten demonstriert. Aber ebenso brauchen wir Landschaftsfotografie, die entzückt. David Parkers Bilder betrachten wir als eine Gesamtheit, nehmen sie zuerst als Ganzes wahr, obwohl wir dann zum Umherschweifen eingeladen sind. Der Raum ist ein tiefer Raum, der uns regelrecht umgibt, sogar über unseren Köpfen. Räumlich sind sie mit keinen anderen, uns vertrauten Fotografien vergleichbar, und in ihrem seltsamen Hochgefühl, ihrem Gefühl der Erwartung, werden wir am meisten an die Aussicht von den vorderen Sitzreihen des Opernhauses erinnert, von wo aus man die Bühne, die Kulissen, sogar den Bogen des Proszeniums über sich sehen kann, ein Ausblick, der einen immer wieder mitzureißen vermag. So ist es ein Vergnügen, in David Parkers großen, aber nicht überdimensionalen Bildern Fotografien zu sehen, denen ihre Größe gut steht. Sie wurden groß geplant, und das Format, auf das sie vergrößert wurden, ist begrifflich, technisch und ästhetisch korrekt. Es ist auch ein Vergnügen, Fotografien zu betrachten, die man im besten Sinne als theatralisch bezeichnen kann, weil sie literarisch, gut durchdacht, phantasievoll und eine wesentliche Voraussetzung der art-"new" sind."
