Ce mémoire (occupant les pages 373-525 de ce volume), ici en format in-quarto, a également paru sous forme de livre, chez Baillière et Fils, la même année, après recomposition en format in-8. Il est à la fois novateur et très documenté, avec de nombreuses références bibliographiques en bas de page. Après des considérations historiques, l'auteur dresse un tableau complet de la chorée : caractères anatomiques, symptômes de la chorée vulgaire, évolution, chorées chroniques, étiologie, diagnostic, diagnostic différentiel, traitement. Le chapitre le plus important et le plus novateur est celui de l'étiologie, avec l'étude des "rapports de causalité et de coïncidence de la chorée [de Sydenham] avec d'autres affections". Sée écrit : "sur 128 chorées, nous avons compté 61 exemples coïncidant avec les inflammations ou les douleurs articulaires, proportion d'autant plus remarquable que le rhumatisme chez les enfants est une maladie extrêmement rare… Il n'est pas rare de voir à ces affections douloureuses des jointures s'adjoindre un deuxième élément morbide, savoir : le rhumatisme soit du péricarde, soit de l'endocarde, du coeur, de la plèvre ou du péritoine… " Il démontre ainsi l'association fréquente du rhumatisme et de la chorée, déjà soupçonné par quelques auteurs (Bouteille, Bright…). Dans le diagnostic différentiel, Sée étudie l'hystérie et aussi la "paralysie agitante" dont la description par Parkinson était en grande partie passée inaperçue (Sée écrit d'ailleurs Patterson au lieu de Parkinson). Germain Sée (1818-1896) fut professeur de thérapeutique puis de clinique médicale à la Faculté de médecine de Paris. Il fut élu membre de l'Académie de médecine.
