This copy was owned and signed by Geri Morgan, once to the ffep, and again (with date, 1952) to the following page. Geri Morgan (1926-2010) was best known as an artist and the principal of the Byam Shaw School of Art, his early life and car…eer were deeply rooted in radical left-wing activism and the Socialist Realist movement of the 1950s. He joined the Brighton branch of the Communist Party in 1942 and post-war (he was a Bevin Boy), he was a committed member of the Artists' International Association (AIA), a group founded to promote left-wing and anti-fascist causes through art. By the late 1950s his political activism was waning, and although his beliefs remained, he decided to keep his political and his artwork separate. Liu Shao-chi (Liu Shaoqi) was a high-ranking leader of the Chinese Communist Party and once considered Mao Zedong's successor before being purged during the Cultural Revolution. His 'On the Party' is a seminal piece of Maoist organizational theory, detailing the structure and discipline of a revolutionary party. Condition: A fair copy only but with a fascinating provenance. The book has been well-read, with some loss to the top of the spine and marginal loss to the rear cover. The contents are a bit dog-eared, and several marginal waterstains throughout. However, it remains in readable condition. Signed by notable previous own.
