Zustand: Near Fine. Typed autograph note, Signed, by the eminent U.S. diplomat George Kennan (dated September 19, 1975), together with two variant transcripts of Eric Sevareid's CBS television interview with Kennan. Former U.S. Ambassador to the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, Kennan was the leading architect of America's policy of containment of Soviet expansion during the Cold War. The autograph card was sent to Eugene Gerhart, Editor-in-Chief of the *New York State Bar Journal*, in response to Gerhart's letter to Kennan, asking Kennan if he could publish the CBS interview in the form of an article in the Journal. In the note Kennan writes that "CBS is preparing a text for wider distribution " Accompanying Kennan's note are typescript copies of Gerhart's two letters to Kennan, one copy of the CBS transcript of the hour-long broadcast interview (18pp.), and a typed transcription of the interview made by Gerhart's secretary (23pp.) Near fine. An important interview concerning Soviet-American relations since World War II, with a nice association to Gerhart's *New York State Bar Journal*.
