Lord Gerard, 1883-1953, writes to an unnamed correspondent in response to enquiries regarding his Blakesware residence. The house and its gardens had been described by Lamb in Dream Children (1823), and the enquirer evidently wants to learn the veracity of these descriptions. Unfortunately, Gerard tells him, 'the old house. was destroyed many years ago. & no trace remains of the house or gardens'. He continues, 'I have never been able to find any records or plans which would give one any idea as to the accuracy or otherwise of Lamb's description'.
