Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Composed in 2001 for Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Shadowlines was George Benjamin's first piano work in almost two decades. By turns gentle and explosive, intimate and monolithic, its six movements (all canons in different ways) form a continuous 15-minute structure of great drama. More often than not, Benjamin's processes are hidden, and go beyond standard techniques of transposition and inversion; from 'elastic' canons, where lines expand, contract or fuse according to variable speeds, to a procedure of Benjamin's own invention where melodic lines and chords pass through a simple intervallic code and emerge totally transformed. A bitter sequence of octatonic chords becomes a blues-like sequence of dominant 7ths, whilst a fierce, plangently chromatic two-part polyphony is transfigured into mild, pentatonic yodelling.
Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The ten exquisite miniatures that make up Piano Figures, composed by George Benjamin, were specifically conceived for the hands of young pianists. Most of the short movements do not present big technical challenges, though a few do require a degree of virtuosity. At all times, however, the composer's desire was to state ideas and capture moods in the most direct and econimical way possible.
Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This Piano Sonata - George Benjamin's first published work - was written between 1977-78 whilst he was studying in Paris with Olivier Messiaen and Yvonne Loriod. Written in three contrasting movements, the work develops one theme throughout a dizzying 22-minute span, exploiting the instrument's contrasting registers, its resonance and its precision and range of attack, with spectacular panache.
