Inscribed by the photographer the year after publication to Sol Libsohn (1914-2001), a documentary photographer, and co-founder of the New York Workers Film and Photo League: "For Sol and Bess / with greatest affection and admiration / George Krause / 1992." Tiny spot opposite the title page, else Fine in a Near Fine dustjacket, showing mild external wear and some scattered foxing on verso. In a 2018 interview with Tony Ward Studio, Krause mentioned how in 1959, Libsohn, who was one of his teachers, suggested he take a portfolio of his work to show the photography department at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. As a result of that meeting, Edward Steichen purchased several of his images for the study collection, and in 1961, one of those images was included in a MOMA Recent Acquisitions show.
