Maestro de una generación de luchadores anticoloniales del Caribe, África y Asia, fue el mentor de Kwame Nkrumah y jugó un rol central en el proceso de independencia y unidad de África. Autor de una enjundiosa obra, con su pluma mordaz construyó un pensamiento crítico original con el cual asaltó los pilares del orden y del discurso colonial, racista y capitalista moderno. Tras su muerte, en 1959, fue injustamente olvidado, especialmente en el mundo hispanoparlante, donde apenas es conocido. Convencidos de la importancia y del carácter pionero de su obra, con esta primera antología de sus textos traducidos al castellano nos proponemos recuperar su figura y sus ideas como un hito central en la historia del pensamiento crítico del Sur Global.

The Pan-African socialist journalist George Padmore left his native Trinidad as a young man and lived in several countries before settling in London in 1934. There he wrote How Britain Rules Africa, a thoroughly researched contribution to the anti-colonialist movement that was forming around him. He writes in the introduction: "Throughout the book the reader will come across every conceivable crime which we are wont to associate with imperialism, but none perhaps more revolting than the ruthless and shameful methods white settlers have adopted in robbing the Natives of their best lands and then forcing them through various devices, chiefly taxation, to go and work for them. For what is land to white men in tropical Africa without black labour?".
