He then worked in Niger ia for several years as a tobacco leaf buyer for the British-American Tobacco Company, while studying the plants of Nigeria. After returning to England and settling in Chichester in Sussex, he opened a nursery and garden center with a comprehensive range of plants, including many that are rare or unusual. Weatherby's is a notable English company that became an authority in the field of Horseracing. Uniformly bound in full calf binding. Externally, smart, with some rubbing to the spines and boards. Volume 97 contains some discolouration to the front board and Volume 99 contains some significant shelf wear to the front board. Small crack to the rear joint and small hole to the rear board of 'Racing Calendar 1897'. Ink inscriptions to front pastedowns of Volume 99, Volume 105,Volume 97, 'Racing Calendar 1897' and 'Racing Calendar 1899'. Newspaper clipping attached to the front pastedown of Volume 99. Internally, hinges slightly tender but all firm. Binding generally firm, though slightly tender to Volume 99. Offsetting to some of the front pastedowns and free-endpapers, and the odd spot or handling mark throughout, otherwise pages generally clean. Very Good. book.
