Tourism business the E Horizon/Jagdeesh Pandian. Although tourism in India has already grown as a highly complex practice nothing that happens here gets documented for further reflections. Needless to say tourism theory here is still at its infancy. Wisdom acquired through years of industrial practice remains at the tacit level which causes difficulties in it being communicated to others. What we have are theoretical models developed elsewhere not in anyway connected with the native practice. Also many of these models are laden by theories that preceded the development of practice and thus are still hypothetical. It is not that theories should always succeed practice but that all good social theories have a cultural logic which can come about only when the theories are contextualized within the elements of native practice. This being the case there are a lot of lapses and lacunas with respect to Indian tourism that we have to look urgently upon. A body of situated theoretical and applied knowledge about tourism in India is an urgent need of the time. For the Indian tourism industry to be in control of its destiny theoretical sophistication as well as recursive reflections of the practice in the light of theory is a foundational prerequisite. The present volume Advancements in Tourism Theory and Practice Perspectives from India is to be seen in this backdrop. It aims to compile together strands of thought by tourism theoreticians and practitioners which serve as a truthful reckoner of the present level of scientific knowledge about Indian tourism. 294 pp.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The Quiet Reshape argues that the most consequential effect of artificial intelligence is not the essays, images, or code it generates, but the slow reshaping of the minds that use it. Drawing on a personal encounter with people in rural India who have never used these tools, and on thinkers from Plato and Walter Ong to Marshall McLuhan and the philosophers of the extended mind, the book makes the case that thinking alongside a machine leaves a durable residue, a cognitive sediment, that persists even when no machine is present. It traces how this particular tool gets inside human cognition through conversation itself, catalogues the cognitive style it deposits, and follows the consequences out into authorship, education, memory, and the homogenization of human thought into a single efficient average. It closes with a practical philosophy of cognitive ecology and an argument for a deliberately built next literacy. Written for the general reader rather than the specialist, it is for anyone, in education, technology, or ordinary life, who senses that something is shifting in how we think and wants language adequate to name it.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The Turning of Kadal House is a novel about a family spice business on the coast of Kerala, in southern India, and the daughter who comes home to save it. When her father suffers a stroke, Sara leaves a fast-rising career in city commerce to take over a fifty-year-old maker of fish-curry masala that is being squeezed by a supermarket chain, undercut by a flush venture-funded rival, and quietly drained by costs no one was watching. What follows is a close, human story of how a small firm finds the few things no competitor can copy, a recipe in an old woman's hands, the trust of a flooded fishing village, the love of a scattered diaspora, and learns to build its future on them. Written for general readers and for students of business alike, it carries the truths of how companies live and die inside the story itself, so they are felt rather than recited. A short companion for instructors at the back maps the novel, chapter by chapter, to a graduate course in strategy.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The Karanavar's Daughter is a novel about a hundred-year-old family spice house on the Malabar coast and the daughter who comes home to bury her father and finds she cannot leave. As a foreign buyer circles, a debt comes due, and the people who actually run the company stand to lose the most, Parvathy Menon has to learn what it means to lead an organization made of real people rather than a chart. The story moves through a single Kerala year, from the dry heat before the monsoon to the harvest, and carries inside it, without ever pausing to explain itself, the everyday human forces that decide whether any company lives or dies: how people read one another, why good groups make bad decisions, where authority truly comes from, what holds workers to a firm, and how two cultures can want the same thing and still misunderstand each other completely. It is written to be read for the story alone, and it also serves as a teaching novel for students and instructors of organizational behavior, leadership, and cross-cultural management anywhere in the world.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The title of this book refers to a fundamental truth about the deanship: the role requires the dean to hold contradictory things in tension without collapsing into cynicism or paralysis. The dean must be an academic and an administrator. A guardian of tradition and an agent of change. A servant of the faculty and a representative of the administration. A steward of scholarly values and a generator of revenue. A local leader and a global ambassador. These contradictions cannot be eliminated. They can only be managed with skill, judgment, and a certain tolerance for ambiguity. The best deans I have known share this quality: they are comfortable being uncomfortable. They have learned to act decisively even when the right answer is unclear. They have developed the political skill to build coalitions without sacrificing their integrity. They understand that leadership in the academy is not about commanding but about persuading, not about controlling but about orchestrating. This book is my attempt to capture all these insights in an accessible manner.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Strategic Leadership for the Graduate School Dean is a bold, practice-informed, and future-oriented guide to one of the most misunderstood leadership roles in higher education. Grounded in the realities of U.S. universities yet globally aware, the book challenges ceremonial and compliance-driven models of academic administration and instead presents the Graduate School Dean as a strategic actor shaping knowledge systems, labor markets, and institutional survival. Combining theory, policy analysis, and hard-earned leadership insight, this volume serves both as a reference work and a provocation for reimagining graduate education leadership in an era of profound disruption.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Slow Fire follows Suhra, a young woman in the coastal town of Thalassery in Kerala, India, who inherits her grandmother's tiny business making a fermented chili condiment from a living culture that has been fed by hand for four generations, and who carries it out into the world, to the Gulf, to Britain, to the United States, and into a trademark fight in China. It is a novel first, a story about family, inheritance, and what is gained and lost when something deeply local is carried across borders. It is also, beneath the surface and by design, a complete course in international business, dramatizing comparative advantage, market entry, cultural and institutional distance, supply chains and standards, currency risk, foreign investment, intellectual property, and the strategy of the multinational firm, all through choices the characters make and pay for rather than through any lecture. Written for MBA students and their instructors anywhere in the world, with local terms explained in the text and gathered in a glossary, and a separate concept map for teaching at the back, it is built to be read for pleasure by anyone and studied without the reader ever feeling taught.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - What happens when the faith you inherited is no longer strong enough to carry the weight of your honest questions If you love Jesus but find yourself exhausted by the performance, noise, and legalism of modern religion, you are not alone. In An Honest Faith, author Reuben Varghese offers a gentle, poetic, and intellectually rigorous sanctuary for the skeptics, the weary, and the wounded. This is not a book of shallow 'just trust God' platitudes. Instead, it is a raw, profound invitation to dismantle the cultural packaging of modern churchianity and rediscover the beautiful, disruptive, and ancient reality of Christ. Whether you feel like an imposter sitting in the pews, have been deeply hurt by a religious institution, or are terrified that your doubts make you a betrayer, this book is a reminder that God is not fragile. He is not threatened by your questions, your anger, or your deconstruction. Divided into six moving parts, An Honest Faith will guide you through: - The Garden of the Mind: Moving from blind devotion and environmental conditioning into an active, intellectual faith that is allowed to think, question, and investigate.- The Relativity of Feelings: Navigating the emotional pull of spirituality and redefining love and goodness past the empty, superficial niceties of society.- The Beauty of Brokenness: Learning to live perfectly imperfectly, finding self-worth in vulnerability, and discovering how your deepest wounds can become the exact places where God's mercy flows outward.- The Imitation of Christ: Stripping away legalism and judgment to look at the radically disruptive, boundary-shattering Jesus. The One who would make modern religious institutions furious and make the broken feel seen.- The Essence of Salvation: Dismantling the illusion of outward righteousness and reclaiming an authentic grace that doesn't demand you pretend to be perfect before you are allowed to belong.- The Nature of God: Walking through the mystery of suffering, divine intervention, and the breathtaking humility of a sovereign Creator who willingly chose to suffer beside us.Are you ready to stop surviving on a borrowed, fragile certainty and begin building an unshakeable conviction of your own. …

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Mini Scientists takes Thomas Kuhn's account of how scientific frameworks fail and asks what it illuminates about the frameworks each of us inherits about work, love, worth, and identity. Its argument is that a personal way of seeing behaves much as a paradigm does: it is absorbed rather than chosen, it makes ordinary life productive by rendering certain questions unaskable, it accumulates anomalies that we repair with increasing ingenuity, and it eventually enters a crisis that no argument can resolve and no evidence alone can settle. The book maps the full sequence, from inherited assumptions through anomaly, crisis, and the sudden reorganization Kuhn compared to a gestalt switch, to the long and unglamorous work of learning a new set of categories. It draws on the philosophy and history of science, on developmental and personality psychology, on the anthropology of transition, and on composite portraits of people in the middle of changes they could not yet name. Alongside the description it offers a practice: how to gather evidence about your own life when the observer and the subject are the same person, how to distinguish a genuine reconstruction from the counterfeits that prey on people in crisis, why self-cruelty destroys the instruments that honest inquiry requires, and why other people are not the background of this work but its essential apparatus. It is written for readers in the middle of a transition they did not plan, for those who suspect their current framework has stopped fitting, and for anyone who has looked back at a drifting period of their life and wondered what it was for. What they will gain is a precise vocabulary for a common experience, a set of tests for telling signal from noise, and a defensible reason to read their own unproductive years as the site of the work rather than its interruption.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The Environmental and Social Consequences of Computing examines the environmental and social consequences of the large data centres now being built to support artificial intelligence, and argues that those consequences are determined less by technology than by the institutional arrangements that surround each facility: how clean electricity is procured and verified, who pays for the grid capacity a connection occasions, whether flexibility is purchased or merely assumed, where cooling water comes from and where it goes, what is disclosed and to whom, and how host communities are positioned in negotiations they are structurally unequipped to conduct. Working systematically through electricity, air, water, noise, land, and materials, the book separates what has been measured from what has been modelled and from what is only inferred, states plainly where the evidence runs out, and represents the case for the sector as strongly as the case against it. It closes with a seven-condition test for evaluating individual projects, a worksheet that converts that test into questions a planning authority or procurement officer can ask, an indicator matrix for researchers, and a research agenda built from actual gaps rather than fashionable ones. Written for policymakers and regulators, nonprofit and community advocates, corporate sustainability and infrastructure teams, and graduate students in environmental policy, energy systems, information systems, and management, it offers a usable map of an unsettled field and a set of instruments for acting well within it before the current buildout hardens into concrete.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The Wounded Word is a contemplative reading of the passages in the Bible that most trouble sincere readers: the divine hardening of Pharaoh, the lying spirit sent against Ahab, the testing of Job, the binding of Isaac and the burning of Jephthah's daughter, the wars of conquest and the imprecatory psalms, the bears of Bethel and the sudden deaths in the early church, the statutes that were not good, and the graves that opened at the cross. Drawing on the wide stream of Christian mysticism, from Origen and the Syriac fathers to the Rhineland preachers, the Spanish Carmelites, and the anonymous English contemplatives, and reaching across confessional lines in a spirit that is spiritual before it is denominational, the book offers not quick apologetic patches but a way of reading that can carry a seeker through the darkest pages without either denial or despair. It is written for the believer who loves the Scripture and has been stopped at its threshold, for the doubter who suspects the faith cannot survive an honest look at its hardest texts, and for any reader drawn to the contemplative tradition's conviction that the passage which wounds the heart is often the one that finally opens it. Readers will come away not with every difficulty dissolved, but with the disciplines by which the tradition has met such difficulties for two thousand years, and with a larger and more trustworthy vision of the God the hard passages, rightly read, disclose.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - A Critical Dictionary of Management Terms takes seventy-five words that shape decisions inside organizations and traces each one from where it started to what it means now. Every entry explains the problem the term was invented to solve, what got lost or reversed as it travelled from research or practice into general business use, and how to use it well anyway. The terms are drawn from across management as it is actually practised, including strategy, organizational behaviour, marketing, operations, finance, and accounting, because the vocabulary does not stay in the department that produced it. Each entry ends with a plain-English translation of what the term usually means when someone says it out loud in a meeting. The book is written for practising managers who want to know what they are agreeing to, and for students who will shortly encounter all of these words presented as settled truths. Readers will finish it able to tell a concept from its slogan, to spot the moment a word starts shifting a burden from the organization onto a person, and to ask the four or five questions that separate an idea worth using from an idea worth surviving.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Enough Intelligence challenges the assumption that has organized the entire field of artificial intelligence: that more capable always means more valuable. Drawing on the Indian practice of jugaad, frugal problem-solving under constraint, and on field observations from classrooms, clinics, shops, and institutions across four continents, Babu George argues that most of the real-world value of AI is created not at the powerful frontier but at the sufficiency frontier, the point where a cheap, accessible tool first becomes good enough to do the job. The book introduces a practical way of thinking about when enough is genuinely enough, takes on the strongest objections to its own case, and shows why constraint sharpens rather than dulls the people working under it. Across chapters on economics, education, health, labor, the environment, and public policy, it explains why the most original uses of this technology are likely to come from the places and people the industry currently overlooks, and grounds the argument in the small-model shift and the energy realities of the mid-2020s. Written for general readers, business and nonprofit leaders, educators, and anyone who has wondered whether the free tool was secretly the smart choice, it offers both a fresh way to see the AI economy and a set of habits for using these tools with clarity, control, and far less waste.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Beyond Weapons argues that the instrument which has organized strategic thought for five thousand years, the weapon, is being demoted from the determinant of outcomes to the executor of outcomes decided elsewhere. In its place it proposes a new unit of analysis, the conversion loop: the circuit by which a society perceives, understands, decides, fabricates, and absorbs, and whose period rather than whose inventory now sets national power. From that substitution the book derives five governing laws of the emerging contest, describes its characteristic operation as the attrition of potential, identifies its characteristic victory as displacement rather than conquest, and argues that its central danger lies not in the destination but in the approach, when a state that expects permanent subordination still possesses the means to prevent it. Written for policymakers, strategists, scholars of international relations and technology, and general readers who want more than the vocabulary of an arms race, it offers a framework, a set of testable propositions, and a concrete agenda of institutions that would make the transition survivable. …

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The Lodestar Standard is a working framework for defining, measuring, and improving educational quality once capable AI sits inside every online course. It argues that the twenty-year-old model of inspecting a fixed course against a checklist has quietly stopped working, because the course now bends to each learner and a polished assignment no longer proves anyone learned anything. In its place the book offers a single organizing question, the Lodestar Test, which asks what a learner can still do when the tools that helped them are taken away, and seven standards that put that question to work across capability, integrity, partnership with AI, the irreplaceable human core, personalization, governance, and continuous review. Written for the reviewers, instructional designers, faculty, and academic leaders who already care about online learning quality, it pairs a clear argument with a complete field kit: a self-assessment instrument, a reviewer's handbook, a worked example, an executive brief, a ninety-day adoption plan, and discussion questions for faculty. Readers will leave able to judge whether their own programs produce graduates who genuinely own what their credentials claim, and with a concrete, low-cost practice for closing the gap, one that favors strong mentorship and honest evidence over deep pockets.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Let It Breathe argues that the scarce human capacity in an age of instant machine answers is not the ability to answer but the willingness to leave an answer standing open. Taking its title and its central idea from the phrase John Keats coined in a letter to his brothers in December 1817, the book traces how Western thought came to treat inquiry as something that terminates, examines what the research on premature closure, automation bias, and desirable difficulties tells us about the cost of concluding too soon, and asks what happens to human judgment when the interval between a question and its answer collapses to nothing. It is written for teachers, clinicians, managers, researchers, and general readers who use these systems daily and have felt something they could not name, and it offers both a defensible account of when a question should be held open and a set of practices for holding it. Readers will come away with a working distinction between deciding and concluding, a criterion for exercising what the book calls the veto, and an argument for why the one category of thing that must never be concluded is a person.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Principles of Verification Economics argues that artificial intelligence has not made intelligence the decisive economic resource but has removed it as a constraint, exposing a deeper scarcity beneath. Generating a plausible answer is now nearly free; establishing that an answer is fit to act on, and finding someone who will bear the consequences of acting, is not, because verification requires contact with a world that responds on its own schedule. From this asymmetry the book derives a formal bound on how much any sector can improve, a price theory for assurance, a reconstruction of the theory of the firm around evaluation rather than transaction costs, an account of the congestion now forming at every institutional check, and an argument that accountable persons constitute a factor of production that no society is currently producing. It is written for economists, policymakers, executives, and scholars of technology and institutions who want an analytical framework rather than a forecast, and for professionals in medicine, engineering, law, finance, and research who have noticed that their generative work is collapsing in value while their signature is not. Readers will come away with a vocabulary for locating themselves in the coming economy, a method for auditing where verification costs actually sit in their own work, and a set of falsifiable predictions against which the argument can be tested. …

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - A Dictionary of Misleading Management Metrics examines sixty-one of the numbers, ratios, and grids that organizations rely on and explains, entry by entry, the conditions under which each stops describing the thing it was adopted to describe. The entries cover financial measures such as EBITDA and return on equity, commercial measures such as bookings and pipeline coverage, operational measures such as capacity utilization and on-time delivery, people measures such as engagement scores and the nine-box grid, and the familiar two-by-two grids of strategy and risk, and each is analyzed through a common framework of six failure mechanisms: Goodhart drift, the proxy gap, survivor skew, vanity, gaming, and theater. The book is written for managers, analysts, and MBA students who must interpret and act on such numbers rather than merely compute them, and it offers, alongside the criticism, the diagnostic questions and the replacement measures that hold up under pressure. Readers will finish it able to identify why a given metric will fail before it fails, to estimate how long a measure will remain informative after it becomes a target, and to build reporting that keeps the distance between the number and the thing in view.…
