Map is vibrant, bright and clean and in very good condition with only minor wear to the fold intersections. The reverse show maps of Riyadh, Jeddah And Dammam on a scale of 1:20000 and Mecca on a scale of 1:13000. Minor rubbing and edgewear. Repriced by the publisher. A very good copy. Scarce.

Sheet 65x44cm, colour printed to both sides, folding down into title panels 14x22cm with photo of the Corniche to the front, and publisher's advert for its Arab World Map Library series to the back. Very good, neatly folded with light wear, and faint price imprint to the title panel. Undated c1992-4 (the first edition was 1982). The main map shows Abu Dhabi bounded by Ar Ras Ak Akdhar (NW), Port Zayed (NE), and the area south of Hadabat Al Zaafaran (S) on a 1/25K scale, with colour coding for land use, detailed Index (areas, streets, various types of building) and Business Directory. Among the infrastructural features is part of the course of a proposed bridge connecting Hazaa Bin Zayed Street to Sadiyat Island. This street was subsequently extended on a slightly different course as one of the links to the closer Al Reem Island, with the link to Sadiyat built further north from Port Zayed (Sheikh Khalifa Bridge, 2006-9). The verso zooms in on Central Abu Dhabi between the Corniche and Madenat Zayed on a 1/7300 scale with Index. And a 1/100K plan of Abu Dhabi Environs takes in its International Airport and Mafraq. Musaffah is shown in the process of development with a blank area labelled "New Musaffah". The areas that would soon become Khalifa City, Zayed City, Masdar City etc, are largely open unnamed spaces. It also shows the full course of the proposed and unrealised Saadiyat bridge project. and the layout of other islands.

This contains: (10)pp prelims (including tissue-guarded Ruler portraits, Foreword by Higher Education Minister and UAE University Chancellor Nahyan bin Mubarak al-Nahyan, and Introduction); and 164 full-page Plates divided into 15 Parts each with its own title and contents page. The loose map of the UAE 1/750K is lacking from the back pocket, and has been replaced with a contemporary edition of GEOprojects UAE map on the same 1/750K scale (see below). This came from a German institute with minimal marks including a small spine label and very small ink stamp to the ffep overstamped "Ausgesondert" (discarded). The covers are otherwise very good, bumped and rubbed along the edges, the interiors very good, lightly creased to several top corners, and creased to a tissue guard. Published simultaneously in English and Arabic in time for UAEU's 12th Graduation Day, this Atlas "realizes an objective view of the Emirates society, maps out the tremendous movement of development witnessed by the State in all aspects of life, and provides an original source for study and research" (Foreword). This major undertaking was initiated in 1988. Work began in 1989 when UAEU contracted GEOprojects to produce the Atlas, and formed an Editorial Committee to oversee, contribute to, and review their work. Professor Nabil Sayed Embabi headed the Committee with representation from Geography, Geology and Remote Sensing, and Accounting Departments, and UAE's Military Survey. The Committee also gathered most of the source data, coordinating with 22 Ministries and Local Government Departments, and 10 agencies and companies (among them ADNOC, ADCO, ADNDC, Etisalat, Abu Dhabi National Hotels Company, Maps Geosystems Sharjah, World Bank). The Plates are arranged thematically as follows: I Maps of the UAE (historical, topographic, geological, aerial and satellite); II UAE from Space; III UAE in international, regional and local mapping; IV Heritage and History (archaeological sites, forts, pearl diving, pre-Islamic, Portuguese and British campaigns etc); V Geology and Geomorphology; VI Climate; VII Water Resources; VIII Biogeography (soils, flora, fauna, birds); IX Population (distribution, growth, fertility, marital status, age, sex, occupation etc); X Land Use; XI Economy (agriculture, animal resources, fishing, oil and gas, electricity, manufacturing, financial, etc); XII Transport and Communications; XIII Education and Health; XIV Cultural (media, sports, tourism etc); XV Index of Geographical Names. MAP: The replacement is GEOprojects "The United Arab Emirates", 6th Edition Revised. Sheet 91x65cm colour printed to both sides, folding down into title panels 14x22cm. One side features UAE 1/750K dated 1995 with Index and description. Very good, neatly folded with short closed tears.
