A fold-out map is titled, Texas and Part of Mexico & the United States, showing the route of the First Santa Fe Expedition. The title page and Preface of the 1844 edition are included. Nineteen chapters. The cloth has a few places of sheen loss, maybe caused by a splash of water. The top edge of the spine strip has color loss from shelf wear rubbing; the bottom edge is less thus. The lettering on the spine strip has sheen loss. The top end of the text block has gilt that is mottled with many dark spots. The other two ends of the text block have darkened. 34 page corners have a light brown water stain; 20 other page corners have a faint water stain. Scans e-mailed upon request.

The map has a closed stress tear across one of the panels else is in very nice condition. Volume 1 is second state with '1845' at base of spine; Volune 2 is first state.
