Van der Meulen also painted portraits, hunting scenes, paintings of chateaux and landscapes. He created designs for prints and cartoons for tapestries. Condition: good, given age. Adam Frans van der Meulen (Brussels 1632 - 1690 Paris) was a Flemish painter, publisher and draughtsperson. He is known for creating designs for prints as well as tapestries. Although he painted castles and landscapes, he is mainly remembered for his miltary scenes. In very good condition, cropped within platemark. References: Hollstein 37 ii/4 (with the address of Van der Meulen). With the collection mark of Ottokar Mascha (Lugt 1903 or 1904) stamped on the verso.

In good condition, a stain in the right side of the image, minimal paper loss in the lower right margin corner (minimally affecting image). Overall a little soiled, and with some faint creases. He is mainly remembered for his landscape paintings and prints. He worked in many places in Europe, including Paris, Rome and Antwerp. A beautiful print, but not in the best condition. Cropped within platemark, a small stain in the top right corner, some minimal paper loss top right, a a small stain in the center of the image, and another above the head of the standing soldier, some soiling in the left edge. References: Hollstein 18 (only state); Bartsch 18. With the collection mark of Friedrich August II of Saxony (Lugt 971) in the lower edge.

Zustand: sehr guter Zustand. Feder in Braun, grau laviert, mit schwarzer Feder umrandet, auf braun eingefärbtem Bütten. 10,7:13 cm. - Verso mit Kleberesten an zwei Rändern. Provenienz: Sammlung A. Ritter von Wurzbach-Tannenberg, Wien, Lugt 2857; Sammlung B. Moser, Wien, Lugt Suppl. 1828a; weiterer nicht identifizierte Sammlerstempel und Sammlungsnummern. Vergleichsliteratur: An Zwollo, Hollandse en Vlaamse veduteschilders te Rome 1675-1725. Assen, 1973, Abb. 6. Genoels war als Maler, Zeichner und Radierer tätig, hielt sich von 1662-1672 in Paris auf, reiste 1674 -1682 rheinaufwärts nach Italien und war in Rom tätig, wo er mit G. A. van Wittel (1653 - 1736) befreundet war. Zahlreich sind seine Federzeichnungen mit grauer oder brauner Tuschlavierung, charakteristisch ist, was auch für unsere Zeichnung zutrifft, sein grobgefächerter Baumschlag.
