Cropped within platemark, a small stain in the top right corner, some minimal paper loss top right, a a small stain in the center of the image, and another above the head of the standing soldier, some soiling in the left edge. Vergleichsliteratur: An Zwollo, Hollandse en Vlaamse veduteschilders te Rome 1675-1725. Assen, 1973, Abb. 6. Genoels war als Maler, Zeichner und Radierer tätig, hielt sich von 1662-1672 in Paris auf, reiste 1674 -1682 rheinaufwärts nach Italien und war in Rom tätig, wo er mit G. A. van Wittel (1653 - 1736) befreundet war. Zahlreich sind seine Federzeichnungen mit grauer oder brauner Tuschlavierung, charakteristisch ist, was auch für unsere Zeichnung zutrifft, sein grobgefächerter Baumschlag.
