In den WarenkorbHardback. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. 1931. First edition. viii, 364pp. and a frontispiece portrait. Brigadier General John Charteris CMG DSO (1877-1946) was a British Army officer. During World War I he was the Chief of Intelligence at the British Expeditionary Force General Headquarters from 1915 to 1918. He published three books in his later years concerning his military service, 'Field Marshal Earl Haig' (1929), 'At GHQ' (1931), and 'Haig' (1933) (a condensed version of the 1929 biography). He had not kept a diary at the time, and so 'At GHQ' consists of papers, notes and letters from the time re-written into diary form. He confesses to sometimes amplifying from memory but by and large the reconstructed "diary" is consistent with records which he kept at the time. The book is bound in the original maroon cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear on the boards and patches of loss of colour from damp or water on up to about 1 1/4" of the fore edge of the rear board and much less noticeable patchy fading on the fore edge of the front board. The spine is slioghtly faded and and the bottom of the spine is bumped. The contents are tight and clean with browning and foxing to the free endpapers and lighter foxing on the fixed endpapers. There is some faint foxing on the half-title page, the frontispiece and the title page. There is no inscription.
