Il commença ses études au collège d'Orléans et les acheva à Paris ; dans sa notice sur la vie et les oeuvres de Jean Heuzet, Ernest Berlemont indique à propos de Gaullyer : "sa vanité excessive dégénéra en folie ; il mourut à Charenton le 24 avril 1736 (Cf Mémoire de la Société Académique de Saint-Quentin, 1890, 144).
