Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Good. A.J.C. Lavalle (illustrator). Presumed First Edition, First printing. [6], xiv, 358, [6] pages. Illustrations. Maps. Footnotes. Index. Cover has some wear. William Wallace Momyer (September 23, 1916 - August 10, 2012) was a general officer and fighter pilot in the United States Air Force. Among his notable posts were those commanding the Air Training Command, the Seventh Air Force during the Vietnam War, and the Tactical Air Command (TAC). During his tour in Southeast Asia, he was concurrently the deputy commander of the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) for air operations and thus responsible for Operation Rolling Thunder, the air campaign against North Vietnam, which Momyer executed in the face of micromanagement from President Lyndon B. Johnson and Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara. Momyer was acknowledged in the Air Force community as "a true expert in tactical air warfare." After his 1973 retirement, he spent five years writing Airpower in Three Wars, his treatise on airpower doctrine, strategy, and tactics. The book offers the general's observations, many from personal experience, of airpower in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. It is an account of the evolution of practical airpower through strategies and campaigns.

Prosper M?rim?e (1803-1870), ?French dramatist and master of the short story whose works?romantic in theme but classical in style?were a renewal of classicism in a romantic age.M?rim?e?s short stories, many of which are mysteries, best illustrate his imagination and somber temperament. Spain and Russia were his principal literary sources, and he was the first interpreter of Russian literature in France. Aleksandr Pushkin was his master, especially for his themes of violence and cruelty and the human psychology behind them. In one of M?rim?e?s best-known stories, Mateo Falcone (1829), a father kills a son for betraying the family honor. The collection Mosa?que (1833) was followed by his most famous novellas: Colomba (1840), the story of a young Corsican girl who forces her brother to commit murder for the sake of a vendetta, and Carmen (1845), in which an unfaithful Gypsy girl is killed by a soldier who loves her?
