A 'superbly illustrated' scientific work, containing an account of the first Swiss expedition to the Kumaon Himalayas led by the authors. Though the object of the expedition was chiefly geological, the two men still managed to climb several high summits on the Nepal-Tibet border. This copy was presented to Norman Dyhrenfurth, a swiss born mountaineer, who led the first American expedition to climb Everest in 1963. Neate H69; Yakushi H219.

Wunderbarer Band über den indischen Himalaya, mit einem wichtigen (unerlaubten) Ausflug nach Tibet zum Kailash, mit Entdeckung/Dokumentation eines Höhlentempels. Die beiden im Buch abgebildeten Thangkas, die Gansser dort gefunden hat, hat er offenbar auch mitgenommen (im Buch ist das nicht erwähnt). Sie wurden nach seinem Tod verkauft (vgl. zu Abbildung 164 im Buch: Bonhams Hong Kong, 1. Dezember 2023, Nr 1843, ca. EUR 63.000; Abbildung 165: Bonhams, Paris, 10. Dezember 2024, ca. EUR 41.000 - zwischenzeitlich restauriert, David Jackson, The Nepalese Legacy in Tibetan Painting, New York, 2018, S. 128, zeigt das Thangka noch im Originalzustand). Ein wichtiges Buch.
