Soft cover. Zustand: New. Fruitful Insights explores these intriguing questions and many more, revealing the profound ecological, cultural, and economic significance of India's fruit trees. From ancient myths such as Shabari offering wild berries to Rama to contemporary stories of the Soliga tribes reclaiming stewardship over Am…la forests, the book weaves together history, science, and lived traditions. Richly illustrated and engagingly written, the book examines how fruit trees shape languages, festivals, art, and rural livelihoods. It explains the ecological partnerships between fruiting trees, bees, bats, birds, and even the wind, while also unpacking the chemistry of flavours, pigments, and aromas that attract wildlife and humans alike. Readers are introduced to the science of selective breeding and biotechnology that influences the fruits on our tables today. Bringing together perspectives from ecology, economics, nutrition, and conservation biology, Fruitful Insights reveals fruit trees as a vital link between forests and farms, wildlife and wellness, tradition and technology. Celebrating both iconic fruits like mango and lesser-known wild fruits of India, the book invites scientists, farmers, policymakers, students, and nature lovers to see fruit trees not merely as sources of food, but as living threads that bind India's landscapes, livelihoods, and legends.

Soft cover. Zustand: New. Composed in the middle of the eleventh century CE, the Natarajapaddhati is the earliest surviving Saiva ritual manual (paddhati) known to have been written in the Tamil country. This volume furnishes a critical edition of the first 340 verses of this hitherto unpublished work, which detail the daily obl…igatory rites of an acarya who has been initiated (diksita) in the Saivasiddhanta tradition. It provides precise instructions on the sequence of performing all rites, from waking up in the early morning until bedtime. The author, Ramanatha, a disciple of a certain Nataraja (also known as Natesa), to whom he pays homage and in whose honour the work is named, mentions that he resides in a monastery (matha) situated on the eastern side of the temple of Siva Puspavanesvara, in some unidentified town.

Aquaculture management. 7. Aquaponics: greenhouse application. 8. Troubleshooting in aquaponic culture. 9. Appendix. Aquaponics is integration of r…ecirculating aquaculture and hydroponics in one system. It involves fish plant and bacteria. The effluent from fish tank is delivered through plant beds and not released into environment. At the same time the nutrients for plant are supplied from a sustainable cost effective and non-chemical source. Aquaponics can be more productive and economically feasible in situation where land water is limited. The production of fish and plant in aquaponics ecosystem is visible since the process allows the fish, plants and bacteria to thrive symbiotically. The present attempt is made to educate aquaponics in brief, in simple for beginners and slowly attempt to large system. This is a resource book, includes description even to a non-technical reader. This publication is divided into convenient chapters, starting from about aquaponics, system, media, fish culture, management, trouble shooting and greenhouse planning. The challenge has been to provide a bridge towards common understanding of broad field of aquaponics using adequate technical details. Each chapter is dedicated to a specific facet of an aquaponic system. The target audience is Agriculture extension officers, aquaculture promoting officials, NGO's companies and individuals with the intension to bring a general understanding of aquaponics to people and society.

By bringing cheap and nourishing food within the reach of all even the poorest-hydroponics offers a real value too humanly, commercial application of this technique has very advantages like higher crop yields, growing all around the year, high value crops, space requirement, no after cultivation with improved quality. The yield is estimated to be 2-3 times more than the conventional agriculture practices. This book is mainly intended to create awareness on soil less cultivation, basic principles, advantages, systems in practices, different media nutrient management operation, constraints and problems. Suitable figures of illustration will arouse interest to readers and contribute to society and nation towards self-sufficiency. Hydroponics offers the promise of feeding the millions of starring people around the world. Many of the greenhouse operation are hydroponic in nature. The beneficiates includes retail chain, defense establishment, public sector companies, hotel chains, processed food industry, catering series, corporate hospitals NGO's foreign retail companies, public-private partnerships. The ability to identify deficiencies of plant nutrients before they limit crop yields is a major need in modern agriculture. The ability requires using a combination of diagnostic methods that enable remedial step to be taken before the crop yields are severely reduced. Three main methods of diagnosis may be used: visual deficiency symptoms, soil analyses and leaf tissue analyses. This book presents vast information on foliar diagnosis for managing the nutritional disorders for most of the important agricultural Crops viz., Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds, Fiber Crops etc. The book is written from a practical stand point, on the description of deficiency symptoms along with colour photographs associated with specific nutrient deficiencies. The other chapters are devoted to present a brief account on mineral nutrition, uptake processes of plant nutrients, their availability in nature and in soil, their role in plant metabolism. A detailed account of macro and micro nutrients and their management strategies are comprehensively discussed on both the underlying theory and practical application.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Blast is an important foliar disease that infects the majority of cereal crops like rice, finger millet, pearl millet, foxtail millet and wheat, and thus resulting in a huge economic impact. The pathogen is responsible for causing epidemics in many c…rops and commonly shifts to new hosts. Magnaporthe spp. is the most prominent cause of blast disease on a broad host range of grasses including rice as well as other species of poaceae family. To date, 137 members of Poaceae hosting this fungus have been described in Fungal Databases. This book provides information on all blast diseases of different cereal crops. The pathogen evolves quickly due to its high variability, and thus can quickly adapt to new cultivars and cause an epidemic in a given crop. Some of the topics covered here include historical perspectives, pathogen evolution, host range shift, cross-infectivity, and pathogen isolation, use of chemicals fungicides, genetics and genomics, and management of blast disease in different cereal crops with adoption of suitable methodologies. In the past two decades there have been significant developments in genomics and proteomics approaches and there has been substantial and rapid progress in the cloning and mapping of R genes for blast resistance, as well as in comparative genomics analysis for resolving delineation of Magnaporthe species that infect both cereals and grass species. Blast disease resistance follows a typical gene-for-gene hypothesis. Identification of new Avr genes and effector molecules from Magnaporthe spp. can be useful to understand the molecular mechanisms involved in the fast evolution of different strains of this fungal genus. Advances in these areas may help to reduce the occurrence of blast disease by the identification of potential R genes for effective deployment.Additionally, this book highlights the importance of blast disease that infects different cereal hosts in the context of climate change, and genomics approaches that may potentially help in understanding and applying new concepts and technologies that can make real impact in sustainable management of blast disease in different cereal crops.
