Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First edition. Quarto [31 cm] Brown cloth covered boards lettered in gold on the spine and front cover. Brown endpapers. In the dust jacket, with light soiling, and periodic shallow closed tears and chips to the edges. From the Introduction- "Borein's Indians are "imagined" Indians. As men and women they are real, but their raiment generally is a mixture of styles and ornament, just as is the dress of the modern off-the-Reservation Indian. From Borein's drawings it is sometimes difficult to name for them a definite time and place when their dress alone is our guide. To me this is unimportant, for Borein's drawings and etchings present believable scenes and they present the story of the Indian's meetings and conflicts with the white man as Borein understood them to have been, as a result of his own long association with them.".

Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. 1st Edition. 128 pages, + frontispiece and six leaves of illustration. 170x110mm. Original publisher's cloth, spine decorated and lettered black with decorated front cover. With a preface by Michael Fogarty, Bishop of Killaloe. *** Father Edward J. Galvin (1882-1956) was founder of the Missionary Society of St. Columban and first Bishop of Hanyang, China. Born in Co. Cork, he was ordained a Catholic priest at St. Patrick's College, Maynooth and held early positions in Cork and Brooklyn, New York. In 1912 he travelled to China, founding in 1916 the 'Missionary Society of St. Columban' which was dedicated to the conversion of the Chinese people to Catholicism. Father Galvin dedicated the rest of his life to work in China until his expulsion in 1952. *** *** The rarity of this little volume is explained by the fact that the "Catholic Truth Society of Ireland' premises on O'Connell Street, Dublin was completely destroyed by fire in 1922 during the Irish Civil War. *** Slight wear (with no loss) at head and tail of spine, otherwise a very good copy without any damage, library stamps, inscriptions or other markings.
