The recipient of this copy, Professor Thomas Andrew Bailey (1902?1983), spent much of his career at Stanford University and was a prolific author of several books on American foreign policy. His notable works include "The American Pageant" and "Diplomatic History of the American People." He wrote extensively on the Woodrow Wilson Administration and the League of Nations.
