Saadi's thirteenth-century Pandnama is one of the most influential works in the Persian tradition of 'mirrors for princes', presenting its moral teachings in rhyming couplets often memorised by later students. The present dissertation delivered viva voce in Helsinki by Gabriel Geitlin (18041871), future vicar of Espoo in southern Finland and professor of biblical exegesis at Helsinki is in two halves, the first consisting of a Latin introduction, commentary, and translation, with much philological detail, the second giving the original Persian text, proceeding right-to-left to end where the Latin portion concludes.
