Softcover. Zustand: Very good+ condition. Typed manuscript. Quarto. [5] 53pp. Original purple library tape over light brown paper-covered boards. With printer's instruction on title page. Compilation of statements selected mainly from Norman H. Baynes translation of Hitler's speeches between April 1922 and September 1939, collected and published by Hitler "some years before the war." Quoted with permission of the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Mr. Baynes, the Oxford University Press and Sir Humphrey Milford, publisher. The quotes used in this book are indicated by volume and page of that translation, therefore easily traced for context. Laid in a rejection letter regarding publication of the manuscript by The Foreign Service of the United States of America; with suggestion to approach American publisher's Little, Brown and Company or Houghton Mifflin. Excerpts from the preface: "It is outwith the scope of this booklet to dwell on Nazi atrocities committed long before as well as after the war started. Many conclude that he was not only, as he said himself, a fanatic; but, intensely neurotic in constitution, he was also mentally unbalanced." (Preface). The introduction lays out the psychological profile of Hitler as well as the political context, not without stating his surprise that the German people would succumb to "his philosophy." Wilton claims that German diplomacy increasingly employed deceit as a means of circumventing all countries standing in the way of her expansive aims, plotting world domination. The author claims this, after the end of the war, to be an opportune time to get a portrait of Hitler, "drawn, as it were, by himself, from his speeches, proclamations, broadcasts, etc. "The compiler's notes, with no intention of being compendious, shew Hitler's statements, when contrasted with what he did, as a consistent tale of Nazi political technique in deliberate and wholesale deceit and mark the discord, as was nefariously all along intended, between the professions of Hitler and his political supporters and his and their actions against all those persons or states whom they designed to overcome and crush." (Introduction). 53 page booklet with preface, introduction, and chapters on Hitler's Topics, Personal and Domestic, International Relations, Army, and World War, with a one page conclusion ending with "And of Hitler himself history may record that he was a "wretch concentred all in self", who went "down To the vile dust, from whence he sprung, Unwept, unhonour'd, and unsung." Manuscript with inked corrections. Light wear along edges of covers.
