Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair. 1st Edition. Price-clipped dust jacket faces front and back well preserved and well positioned in a mylar protector with backing which has smoothed out a lot of the creasing. That being said, there are several imperfections. In charcoal pencil on front cover written "2…5c". Spine is sunned and chipped missing one inch at head, tail is also chipped (eighth of an inch) on front cover edge, rub and crease marks along bottom and top edges with closed tears, only one on top edge large enough to detract from cover art. Also on top edge a second chip with one half inch diameter triangle missing. As for the book, front endpaper has been removed so it starts off with half title page. Binding is a little loose at pastedowns and boards have mild shelf wear, yellowed page edges. Two BW photographs, one of editors and the other of painting by DH Lawrence. Introduction by Graham Greene. Viking April 1953 first US edition. 192 pages with index. Superb mid-century decorations by Bruce Roberts who also design the dust jacket and title page. Bruce Roberts (illustrator). Book.

Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Wrappers. Spine slightly darkened and showing a little wear at foot. Edition limited to 300 numbered copies signed by the author; loosely inserted a news-cutting of the TLS's review (by Masolino D'Amico) of Alberto Vigevani's 1988 Italian edition, Le avventure di un libraio. Memoirs o…f the friend of Norman Douglas and publisher of Lady Chatterley's Lover. "Looking back at my long relationship with Lawrence," he writes, "I come to the conclusion that it was on the whole unsatisfactory. One had golden moments with him: no doubt of that. One had also the reverse . . . In matters of business he was more trouble than any one I have ever dealt with, and as a friend so incalculable and often so disappointing, and disheartening, that now and then I wonder how many of those who knew him well were really sad when he died. Incurably distrustful of your motives, and of everybody else's! Full of reservations! When least you expected it, he contrived to do or to say something which chilled your affection to the marrow . . . Lawrence was a homosexual gone wrong; repressed in childhood by a puritan environment. That is the key to his life and writings.". Signed by Author(s).
