The present investigation, begun in 1922, was undertaken with the conviction that the methods then published for the estimation of aluminium were so crude and inaccurate that the conclusions drawn are open to serious criticism. Accordingly, a delicate and accurate method has been devised and by its use new facts on this problem have been established. Two books have recently appeared which review the present status of the aluminium problem. E. E. Smith, devoting himself especially to aluminium as a native or added constituent of foods, summarizes investigations bearing on this subject. Stoklasa, after forty years of work on the distribution of aluminium in nature, publishes his results. No attempt is made here to review in detail this mass of material.
