Near contemporary quarter calf over tree-calf-resembing paper boards. Spines with gilt ornamental bands and two green morocco labels, of which the… lower one with blind-rolled borders. Marbled endpapers. = Very rare true second, enlarged, edition, with a large, folded map of Paris and 115 plates The first edition, which is fairly common, has only 98 plates. A 1842 edition sometimes called second edition is merely a reprint of this edition. Provenance: on the front pastedown a mineralogical bookplate of the French mineralogist and professor at the École des Mines, Claude Jean Guy Guillemin (1923-1994), who was a co-founder of the International Mineralogical Association. One spine foot (lowest 8 millimeters) repaired; otherwise very good, clean.
