Binnen de vakkringen der psychiaters en neurologen heeft de meester zijn volgelingen en zijn tegenstanders, maar weinigen van de eersten aanvaarden zijn leer zonder enige kritiek, evenmin als er onder de laatsten nauwelijks gevonden worden die niet op enigerlei wijze de invloed van de grote baanbreker hebben ondergaan. Buiten deze kringen wordt aan de discussie in de week in de lekenwereld deelgenomen en hier nogal eens op een zeer wankele gronden van kennis en competentie. Het werk van prof. Bally, die zowel door zijn lange praktijk als door zijn werkzaamheid als academisch docent ten volle op dit gebied bevoegd is, wil twee?rlei doel dienen: aan studerende en werk in handen geven dat een eerste overzicht van Freuds psychoanalyse bevat; daarnaast aan de vele belangstellenden in de ruimere kring een betrouwbare voorlichting bieden, die hen instaat zal stellen tot een juiste en wellicht bescheidener oordeel over deze ingewikkelde stof. Het boekbezit twee aanmerkelijke voordelen: ten eerste de vlotte en heldere schrijftrant waarin Bally zijn beschouwingen onder woorden weet te brengen, en vervolgens de grote menigte citaten uit de geschriften van Freud zelf, waardoor de beschrijving als het ware een stempel van authenticiteit heeft gekregen. Van het eigen werk van Freud kan men kwalijke beweren dat het bijzonder vlotte lectuur is, maar in verband van Bally's beschouwen en vinden deze aanhalingen een uitnemende verklaring en komen daardoor voor de lezer volkomen tot hun recht. Aldus is deze na aandachtige bestudering van het werk geheel instaat om de kleine keuze van langere samenhangende fragmenten uit de werken van Freud ( en Breuer), die als aanhangsel zijn toegevoegd, zonder al te grote moeite te verwerken. Dit werkt over Freud, over zijn leer en praktische therapie, mag zeker een voorbeeld genoemd worden van verantwoorde populairwetenschappelijke behandeling van een moeilijke stof.

In fact, this workshop was not the first meeting dealing exclusively with biomedical applications of holography and related techniques. The very first symposium in this field was organized by Prof. P. Greguss and took place in New York in 1973. A second one was held in MUnster in 1976 with the objec tive to improve the communication among the at that time rather isolatedly working groups in this research domain. The great response to that meeting gave encouragement to the organization of another one in MUnster, this time on a more extended international base. Thus, this workshop attracted 85 scientists from 13 countries, i.e. Austria, Brazil, Czechoslovakia, Fed. Rep. of Germany, France, Great Britain, Hungary, Japan, Norway, Sweden, The Netherlands, USA, Yugoslavia.
