Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Il Piviale Di Pio II Nel Museo Della Cattedrale Di Pienza' provides a detailed and scholarly examination of one of the most significant liturgical artifacts of the Italian Renaissance: the cope (piviale) of Pope Pius II. Housed in the Cathedral Museum of Pienza, this exquisite vestment is a masterpiece of 15th-century textile art, renowned for its intricate embroidery and theological complexity. The work, authored by Monsignor G. B. Mannucci, explores the historical origins, stylistic nuances, and iconographic program of this remarkable papal treasure. The description focuses on the material culture and artistic heritage of the Piccolomini family, specifically highlighting how the cope reflects the humanist and religious ideals of Enea Silvio Piccolomini (Pius II). By analyzing the narrative scenes and craftsmanship, the text situates the artifact within the broader context of the Renaissance's 'ideal city' of Pienza. This volume serves as an essential resource for those interested in textile conservation, ecclesiastical history, and the intersection of art and devotion in the early modern period. It offers a profound look at the splendor of papal vestments and the enduring legacy of Renaissance craftsmanship in Tuscany. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
