Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The Operator Theory conferences, organized by the Department of Mathematics of INCREST and the University of Timi~oara, are conceived as a means to promote cooperation and exchange of information between specialists in all areas of operator theory. This volume consists of a careful selec Pds. ion of papers contributed by the participants of the 1986 Conference. They reflect most of the topics dealt with by the modern operator theory, including recent advances in dual operator algebras and the fnvariant subspace problem, operators in indefinite metric spaces, hyponormal, quasi triangular and decomposable operators, various problems in C - and W -algebras and so on. The research contracts of the Department of Mathematics of INCREST with the National Council for Science and Technology of Romania provided the means for developing the research activity in mathematics; they represent the generous framework of these meetings, too. It is our pleasure to acknowledge the financial support of UNESCO which also contributed to the success of this meeting. We are indebted to Professor Israel Gohberg for including these Proceedings in the OT Series and for valuable advice in the editing process. Birkhiiuser Verlag was very cooperative in publishing this volume. The binding is signed with a rubber stamp on the inside of vol. 1 - ''G. Engel - Spa '' (Belgium). The second series is bound in uniform red half leather. The interior is fine but the bindings show some sign of wear. All issues ( 921) complete with the covers and the the out-of-text plates. Issue 1 dates from 10 november 1894 -> Issue 430 ( 31st january 1903) ; new series - issue 1 (7th february 1903 -> Issue 491 (29 june 1912) All In very good condition, notwithstanding the usual tiny tears at some pages, the frayed margins of the out-of-text plates. On the whole a very fine run of this leading French satirical weekly. Exceptionally long run of this famous Parisian humorous and satirical weekly. The first and the last page contains allways a full-page coloured illustration. In the first years Toulouse-Lautrec was a regular contributor with 11 full page drawings in the first three years. Among the other illustrators we find all the famous draughtsmen of the French Belle Epoque; e.g. Valloton, Forain, Willette, Josset, Paul, Steinlen, Cappiello, Villon, Iribe, Chéret, C. Morin, Kupka, Gus Bofa.After this second series which ended at the beginning of the First World War (issue nr. 600 was the last) another two series were published : during WWI 215 issues were published under the title '' Le Rire Rouge''. It resumed after the war and even continued until 1971 !! (Issues after the WWI are very difficult to find. It seems that the interest to collect ''Le Rire'' and have them bound in yearly volumes seems to have vanished in those days.

Amsterdam, Scheltema & Holkema's Boekhandel, 1897, small in-4°, 23,5 cm, 42 leaves , page numbering 1-42 (printed in the japanese style), bound in publisher's full vellum, gilt title on front cover , top edge gilt. Outer margin of the upper cover with some very slight soiling, further a very fine copy with a flawless interior. Printed in 250 numbered copies. This is copy 131 on japan paper. Very nice Dutch Art Nouveau book production. Illustrated with 19 engravings by the great Dutch orientalist painter and engraver Marius Bauer ( 1867 - 1932 ). The endpapers and the 48 ornamental engravings were designed by Gerrit Willem Dijsselhof ( 1866 - 1924 ) . The French text is a translation made by the French speaking Swiss symbolist artist William Ritter ( 1867 - 1955 ).
