Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. First edition. Octavo. viii, 285pp. Illustrated with a black and white frontispiece and map. Light green cloth stamped in forest green and titled in gilt. Inked inscriptions on both front endpapers, as well as a Castle Hacket bookplate. Binding cocked and worn, offsetting on endpapers, lower hinge starting but solid, sound but good only. A novel set in West Connaught in the 16th Century, written pseudonymously by Irish naturalist and priest, William Spotswood Green. Green (1847-1919), born in Youghal, was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. He became a marine biologist, leaving the Church in 1890, and later served as Inspector of Fisheries. He wrote a number of books on the study of glaciers and marine biology, and he was also an accomplished mountain climber. This is the author's only known novel, and very uncommon. *OCLC* locates only five copies in the U.S.
