Fugate ser…ved in the Navy, and in between stints in the service, wrote Quatrefoil. When it was revealed he was the author, he was honorably discharged from the Navy. This experience led him to take an active role in working for gay rights POOR jacket on a GOOD book. Large piece of the jacket torn off and MISSING from the upper third of the rear panel. General toning and minor soiling to the jacket. Some scuffing, with faint dark scratches to the rear panel. Minor bumping, fraying and creasing along the extremities. Book with general fading, some soiling, scuffing and edgewear. A few small areas of discoloration to the rear cover.

James Fugate aka James Barr (1922-1995) is the author of the classic work of gay writing, Quatrefoil: A Modern Novel, and was an activist in the gay rights movement. He was honorably discharged in 1952 when his identity as the author of Quatrefoil became public. John (Giovanni) P. Pitcherale (1919?-1998) was a friend of The Boston Symphony Orchestra. He is also listed as one of the principal correspondents in The Papers of Eleanor Roosevelt. Condition: Mailing fold lines, otherwise very good condition. Signed by Author(s).
