Brossura coeva editoriale d'attesa in carta grigia, qualche lieve difetto. Alcu…ne carte con leggerissima ed uniforme brunitura e alcune altre con leggero foxing, mai intenso o fastidioso, dovuto alla qualità della carta e nel complesso esemplare in buone condizioni di conservazione e ancora in barbe (alcuni fogli ancora chiusi). Prima traduzione italiana, una seconda edizione uscì l'anno seguente, di questa importante opera scritta dal noto giurista e storico del diritto francese Antoine-Yves Goguet (18 gennaio 1716 a Parigi - 2 maggio 1758 a Parigi), famoso proprio per questa sua opera in tre volumi dedicata storia del diritto, delle arti e delle scienze dell'antichità e dal giurista e pubblicista, Alexandre Conrad Fugère (1721-1758) che fu Consigliere presso la Corte di aiuto e direttore del "Journal des savants". L'opera qui presentata ebbe un enorme successo tanto da venir ristampata numerose volte ( (1759, 1778, 1809, 1810) varie traduzioni in altre lingue come la nota traduzione inglese del 1775 e le due traduzioni italiane. L'opera è particolarmente ricercata in quanto rappresenta uno dei primissimi trattati di etnografia comparata (termine e scienza coniata e definita per la prima volta, come ben si sa, dal Johann Friedrich Schöpperlin nel 1767, anche se il padre di tale disciplina scientifica è il tedesco Gerhard Friedrich Müller con i suoi studi su alcuni gruppi etnici siberiani, eseguiti fra il 1733 ed il 1743). L'autore si è "preoccupato di ricostituire lo stato dell'umanità dopo il diluvio, ha chiesto lumi alle notizie etnografiche fornite da autori antichi e moderni, particolarmente all'opera del padre Lafitau sui costumi dei Pellirosse. Le sue conclusioni lo portano a infirmare le vedute di Rousseau sull'umanità allo stato di natura; e anche per questo la sua opera è importante" (da Treccani). L'opera infatti, arricchita da alcune bellissime e grandi tavole dedicate in particolare all'Egitto, descrive l'origine e lo sviluppo delle leggi, il susseguirsi dei governi, la nascita dell'agricoltura, la nascita della lavorazione dei cibi con la produzione dell'olio e del vino, la nascita delle arti ed in particolare il disegno origine del disegno, l'incisione, l'arte medicina, la farmacia antica, l'astronomia e la geografia.
