They are members of the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team plays its home games at Madison Square Garden, located in the borough of Manhattan. Up against the Vancouver Canucks, the Rangers again lost the series opener at home in overtime. The Rangers bounced back and they won the next three games, allowing the Canucks just four goals. However, the Canucks won the next two 6-3 and 4-1 to set up a seventh game, for the second consecutive series, at home. In the seventh game, the Rangers took a 2-0 first period lead, with Messier scoring later to put the Rangers up 3-1, the eventual Cup winning goal as the home team won 3-2, becoming the first (and to this date, the only) player to captain two teams to the Stanley Cup.
