Cover has some wear and soiling. Terri Windling wrote the Historical Introduction. Offers portraits of more than one hundred fantasy writers and includes a brief statement by each author. Patti Perret traveled thousands of miles, traversing two continents, in order to create The Faces of Fantasy, a stunning and definitive collection of photographs of more than one hundred of today's top fantasy writes. With each fascinating frame--couples with insightful personal statements from the authors themselves--Perret takes us on an amazing journey into the hearts, minds, and souls of the people who form the very foundation of modern fantasy. Terri Windling is a writer, artist, and book editor interested in myth, folklore, fairy tales, and the ways they are used in contemporary arts. She has published over 40 books (novels, children's books, and anthologies), winning nine World Fantasy Awards, the Bram Stoker Award, and the SFWA Solstice Award for "outstanding contributions to the speculative fiction field as writer, editor, artist, educator, and mentor." Her adult novel "The Wood Wife" won the Mythopoeic Award for Novel of the Year, and her collection "The Armless Maiden" was shortlisted for the James Tiptree Jr. Award. She has also published numerous essays on myth, fairy tales, mythic arts, and fantasy literature. Perret's book is filled with an assortment of more than 100 modern fantasy authors. Each author received one page in which to describe who they are, their philosophy, or anything else that seemed appropriate. It is important to hear from the authors about themselves in their own words. Most of the images in the book are imaginative. The Faces of Fantasy, is a fun book to have, providing pictures of more than 100 fantasy authors from Lynn Abbey to Jane Yolen. And, of course, it makes a great place to keep all those autographs.
