Combining authoritative scholarship and lucid, lively prose, the Fourth Edition of The Harvard Dictionary of Music is the essential guide for musicians, students, and everyone who appreciates music. The Harvard Dictionary of Music has long been admired for its wide range as well as its reliability. This treasure trove includes entries on all the styles and forms in Western music; comprehensive articles on the music of Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Near East; descriptions of instruments enriched by historical background; and articles that reflect today's beat, including popular music, jazz, and rock. Throughout this Fourth Edition, existing articles have been fine-tuned and new entries added so that the dictionary fully reflects current music scholarship and recent developments in musical culture. Encyclopedia-length articles by notable experts alternate with short entries for quick reference, including definitions and identifications of works and instruments. More than 220 drawings and 250 musical examples enhance the text. This is an invaluable book that no music lover can afford to be without." -- Source: Publisher ; FINE/FINE. Book.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'The Commonwealth Fund Activities in Austria 1923-1929' provides an in-depth account of the significant humanitarian and public health initiatives undertaken in post-World War I Austria. Written by William J. French, this work documents the comprehensive efforts to revitalize the nation's medical and social welfare systems during a period of intense economic and social transition. The narrative details the development of child health stations, the implementation of modern nursing standards, and the establishment of sophisticated public health programs designed to combat prevalent diseases and lower infant mortality rates. As a historical record of international philanthropy, this volume illustrates the collaborative spirit between American humanitarian organizations and Austrian medical professionals. It explores the methodology behind the fund's interventions, highlighting the training of personnel and the creation of sustainable health infrastructures that influenced Austrian social policy for years to follow. This work serves as an essential resource for those interested in the history of medicine, international relations, and the evolution of global public health in the early twentieth century. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. In den WarenkorbOn both sides of a 7.5 x 12 cm card, with curved corners. A frail survival, heavily aged and worn. The text on the recto is printed in black, with the organisation's logo to the left in blue and red. The recto also has a large red 'S' superimposed at centre, and carries the two signatures, that of Guérille certifying that Guillet has been 'enrolled as a Sympathiser-Member'. Printed on the reverse are the 'Aims of the Association': 'To continue the war at the side of the British Government and of our Allies. | To co-operate with General de Gaulle's Free French Forces. | To unite all French people. | To consolidate the Entente Cordiale. | The Association is the only recognised body of loyal French civilians who have pledged themselves to the British Government and General de Gaulle.' Considering the claims made on the reverse of the card, it is curious that little information is availaible concerning it. Perhaps it was a movement inspired by De Gaulle's speech at the Albert Hall in March 1941 ("Discours prononce par le general de Gaulle a la reunion des Francais de Grande-Bretagne, a Londres, le 1er mars 1941"). Scarce: no copy at the Imperial War Museum, and the only other copy traced at the National Library of Scotland.
