paperback. Zustand: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that e…ncompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

In den WarenkorbLeather Bound. Zustand: Very Good +. SIGNED by W. D. John and inscribed by Leslie Joseph. 97 pages of text. Quarto [31 cm] Elegantly bound by Brian Frost and Company (Bath, England) in brown leather with raised bands, a gilt stamped title and floral designs on the spine, and double gilt ruled borders on the boards. Turn-ins gilt…. With very light wear to the extremities, including an almost invisible moisture ring to the front board. The pages are clean and bright. With one hundred and eighty illustrations of which forty are in color. One in an edition limited to 1000 copies. Billingsley is considered one of the foremost names in British porcelain. His remarkable ceramic achievements and accomplishments have been recognized and held in high esteem continuously by both aficionados and technical specialists alike, since the year 1790 when, as a young craftsman at the renowned Derby China Factory, he was suddenly called upon to assume the role of head flower painter, in completing an important order for the matching of some valuable early Chelsea plates with profuse botanical plant decoration. This copy is signed by W. H. John on the front flyleaf. It is also inscribed by Sir Leslie Joseph to the Duchess of Bedford (Nicole Russell): "Her Grace the Duchess of Bedford from Leslie Joseph." Nicole Russell (1920-2012) was one of the first female television producers in France, working on projects which included "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes." Also notable, is the fact that she had been a courier for the Resistance in Paris during the Second World War. In 2003, Russell spent some time living in Santa Fe, New Mexico. According to Anne Constable (The Santa Fe New Mexican), while living in Santa Fe, she [Russell] wrote to Queen Elizabeth II, suggesting that fake fur be substituted for the bear skin used in the hats worn by her guards. Her memoir, published in 1975, was titled "Nicole Nobody." First edition, inscribed association copy.

In den Warenkorb3pp, 12mo. Bifolium. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn, with traces of mount, and red wax seal, adhering to the reverse of the second leaf, which is franked (the franker's name and signature illegible) to 'Sir John Phippart [sic] | &c &c | No 8 New Burlington St'. Slight loss to one corner of second leaf, from breaking op…en of seal, with damage to one word of text. The recipient is the naval writer John Philippart (c.1784-1874), and the address is in fact that of the publishing house of Colburn and Bentley, publishers of the Naval and Military Gazette of which Philippart was the editor. The letter, which concerns a contribution to that journal by Dundas, begins: 'Dear Sir | I shall send in a few days another conclusion to your journal which I think you will deem better worth insertion than my foregoing one. It contains the battle of Fuentes and some matter immediately succeeding'. Dundas hopes that Philippart will find room for the piece in the number for March, and explains that it will take at least as much space 'as the Artle you mention to be in the Jany No and which has not come to hand'. In a postscript he asks, 'If it is not a secre[t,] Pay who is [binded?] whose opinion in my respects coincide with mine?'.

He begins: 'I understand that your tour is to be in the main for the benefit of the Forces'. She may make free use of the pieces 'with this object', and he describes the royalties which will be due to him otherwise, concluding 'In the event of such (perhaps improbable) performances for money, it will be sufficient for you to account for them to me on your return to England'. She may 'make any cuts' she wishes, but cannot 'insert fresh dialogue or [] change the action. | Mlle Fifi is not to be played unless you yourself take the part of "Rachel."' The writer apologises for a delay in meeting due to an attack 'of my old enemy - malaria' . He is now back to 'War Office business' and eagerly awaits a forthcoming meeting: 'I want another…talk with you very much'. Field Marshal Sir John Denron Pinkstone French (1852-1925), 1st Earl of Ypres, distinguished himself in both the Nile Campaigns and the Boer War.
