Encuadernación de tapa blanda. Zustand: Como Nuevo.

In den WarenkorbZustand: Very Good. First edition in publisher's original colour illustrated stiff French flap card wrap covers [soft back]. 8vo. 9'' x 6''. The Sunday of Life is one of Raymond Queneau's three novels of wisdom - a very funny and serious book about days without tomorrow, about evil rooted in man. It opens with the motto of Hegel, and the title of the novel is a direct reference to the work of a German philosopher. Queneau's prose, however, has nothing of a dry treatise, on the contrary: it is rather a ready script for a movie, fast and brilliant dialogues, funny ideas and unexpected twists. Contains 199 printed pages of Polish text. In Very Good clean condition, no dust wrapper as issued. Member of the P.B.F.A. ISBN 9788365125378 POLAND & POLISH HISTORY.

Various formats.Together 11½ pp. Together with two autograph envelopes. All except one letter are part of Escholier's correspondence with the publisher Maurice Delamain of Librairie Stock and his second wife Micheline, several of which concern his friend, the poet Marie Noël, who published with Stock. - In the earliest piece, a postcard dated 8 February 1943, Escholier thanks Delamain for sending him Noël's 1922 anthology "Les Chansons et les Heures" and asks for two more publications, as he was preparing two write a long article on the poet for the Revue des Deux Mondes. A few months later, on 7 June 1943, Escholier writes to thank Delamain for the requested books and asks to be placed on Stock's list of recipients of reviewer's copies, mentioning his work for several journals as justification. - Soon thereafter, the two men became friends, and Delamain seems to have visited Escholier in Mirepoix, as Escholier congratulates Delamain in a short letter from 26 May 1946 on having ascended the famous Château de Montségur some 30 kilometres south of Mirepoix. He also points to "the case of the Abbé Baurès", referring to the priest Raphaël Baurès from Foix who was sentenced to death in 1944 for collaboration and the use of torture. - A letter of condolences for Maurice Delamain's sister-in-law, the translator Germaine Delamain, can be dated to 1956. - The typed letter from 26 May 1961 again concerns Marie Noël in a professional context, following the sale of Stock to Hachette that year and a potential change of publisher for Noël. - Two letters to Micheline Delamain from 1960 and 1967 are of private character. The final letter in the collection with New Year's wishes for 1960 was addressed the French diplomat Maurice Garreau-Dombasle and his wife, the famous translator and writer Man'ha Garreau-Dombasle. Escholier quotes Man'ha with a text inspired by the famous tapestry "The Lady and the Unicorn": "La dame à la licorne avait un petit chien - Qu'il trouve sa place aux pieds de la Dame et la licorne ressuscitée". - Minimal browning.

A remarkable album documenting the transitional period when Genesee College at Lima, New York eventually relocated to Syracuse, becoming Syracuse University in 1870. The album contains portraits of several notable men and women associated with both Genesee and Syracuse, many of whom are identified and many unidentified deserving further research. Included among the captioned prints are John R. French, professor of mathematics and the first dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Syracuse University; and Daniel Steele together with a tintype portrait of his wife. Steele, a prominent figure in John Wesley's Holiness Movement, was acting president of Genesee College and appointed Professor of Mental and Moral Philosophy at Syracuse. He also served as the University's first acting Chancellor. Also included are portraits of Wellesley P. Coddington, Professor of Modern Languages and Greek at Genesee and Syracuse, and David S. Kellicott, who became an eminent Professor of Zoology at Ohio State University. The album is also notable for its many portraits of independent young women, providing documentary evidence in support of one of the key founding mission statements proclaimed at the 1870 inauguration of Syracuse University, that "The conditions of admission shall be equal to all persons . there shall be no invidious discrimination here against woman . brains and heart shall have a fair chance." An historically important album, rich in content with over 175 contemporary photographs providing a holistic visual history of the Syracuse University community at its founding.

Oblong 12mo (visiting card format). 1 p. and two lines. On two cards mounted on paper (4to). Congratulating a "Radio Club" with an aphorism on the perils of French pacifism and the justified demands of France, probably in the wake of the Allied victory in World War I: "La France est sincèrement pacifique, mais elle n'entend pas que la paix tourne à la confusion des vainqueurs. Elle ne demande que son dû, mais dans l'intérêt même de la justice. Elle est resolue à ne rien céder de ses droits [.]". - During the negotiations for the Treaty of Versailles, president Poincaré was among the hardliners, especially concerning the future of the Rhineland. Poincaré considered his resignation, as he did not fully support the final terms of the treaty negiotiated by his prime minister Georges Clemenceau. - Signature and parts of the text slightly faded. "The script by Ned Sherrin and Caryl Brahms was called Oom - Pah - Pah. It was a translation of a long - running Parisian hit Les Pupitres, which means the music stands. The idea was simple. A second - rate orchestra runs out of money and disbands. The musicians wander around Paris using their instruments in weird and witty ways to earn a sou or two." 8vo. 3 pp. on bifolium. To a "Cher Maître", possibly Jules Massenet, writing in support of his former professor at the Paris conservatory Auguste de Martini, who had applied for an unspecified position. Alvarez wrote the beautiful letter in the aftermath of an event with the recipient and Auguste de Martini, which he had missed: "J'ai beaucoup regretté n'avoir pu venir vous voir avec Monsieur de Martini hier. - Albert Raymond Alverez made his operatic debut as Faust in Ghent in 1887. His Paris debut was again Faust in 1892. In 1894 he created the role of Nicias in Jules Massenet's "Thaïs". - The possible identification of the recipient with Massenet is based on a collector's note in pencil. With a deep tear to the fold slightly affecting the text.
