In den WarenkorbTwo very long gallery advertising banners 430 x 130 cms for the Buddha Radiant Awakening exhibition held at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in 2001. Digitally printed on marine grade polyester, hemmed, three tensioning tabs to the inner edges, one also with the three plastic affixing toggles, one hemmed to suit suspension by…a rod, top corner of the Vajradhara banner torn with loss and other minor edgewear, both in very good condition; sold together with the catalogue, 191pp profusely illustrated in colour; high-gloss French flap card wrappers, 30 x 24 cm, one corner bumped, but in very good condition. Unique monumental fabric banners for the landmark exhibition "Buddha: Radiant Awakening" at the Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW) which ran from 10 November 2001 to 24 February 2002. Designed by Freeman Ryan Design, the banners were hung between the classical pillars at the entrance to the Art Gallery of NSW. The exhibition assembled more than 120 works of Buddhist art from a diverse range of countries and traditions to examine the idea of the multiple manifestations of the Buddha across time and space. The banners depict two Buddhas in the Tibetan tradition, one of Vajradhara, a detail from a gilt bronze statue loaned from Museum Rietburg (the printed caption to the lower right of the banner). The exhibition curated by then Head Curator of Asian Art, Jackie Menzies, aimed to showcase the "pervading universality" of Buddha through different traditions. The Vajradhara was highlighted within the exhibition's narrative as the Primordial Buddha?the ultimate source of all tantric teachings and manifestations. The banners are sold with a copy of the catalogue from the exhibition.
