Size: 193 x 120mm. Affixed to a slightly larger sheet. Half length portrait of Charles Stuart, stipple engraved by Freeman after a portrait by Jean Louis Le Tocque (1696-1772).

Zustand: Good. Original engraving on paper. Good. 6.5 x 4.5 inches. Perforation from staple at top edge. Some staining. Trimmed by hand with bottom line cropped out.

Poor copy bound in half aniline calf over marble boards. Wear and tear as with age (with the spine band loosely attached). Text remains well preserved overall; bright and clean. Spine gilt-tooled with raised bands and black leather labels, the former slightly rubbed along with the endbands and rear joint. Marbled edges and endpapers. Text block remains strong and clean on the whole, showing only the expected faint foxing and offsetting of age. Folded matter remains strong. Despite faults, a charming and internally-strong example. An interesting association copy, gift-inscribed by Sir John Campbell to Col. Henry Hely Hutchinson. Third Edition. Good copies both in contemporary half black leather over marbled boards, now faintly scuffed and dust-toned, with panel edges worn. Spines gilt-tooled; joints and endbands rubbed and showing minor loss. Vol. 1 front joint tender at the foot, with text block slightly cracked between frontispiece and title page, the former slightly shadow-stained. Both volumes' front pastedowns scuffed as from deaccessioning, and with light offsetting from frontispiece to the t.p. Text blocks remain strong and clean on the whole, showing only the expected faint foxing and offsetting of age. Folded matter remains strong. A well-preserved set overall. Tinted lithograph with hand-colour, 24.6 x 26.7 cm (sheet including caption), trimmed, margins dusty and discoloured, fold to the inner edge (two small patches of colour loss), two edge tears neatly sealed on the verso, in good condition. Charles-Émile-Callande de Champmartin (1797-1883) was a friend and pupil of Delacroix and he was one of the early painters to travel to the Middle East producing Orientalist works. He was also known for his numerous portraits, historical and religious paintings all of which were very popular during his lifetime.
