The front blank has detached from this repair, but remains present.An uncommon historical account of the South Carolina Protestant Episcopal Church, beginning from the first settlement of Charles-Town and providing sketches of various parishes including St. James', St. Marks', St. David's and St. Helena's. With additional sections exploring other congregations as well as the succession of Bishops in the US. protestant episcopal churches, and a list of clergymen of the South Carolina church.Written by British-born American clergyman, Frederick Dalcho. He also had a major effect on Freemasonry in South Carolina and was a powerful orator, often delivering speeches about the fraternity and its history. In 1824 he with others established The Charleston Gospel Messenger and Protestant Episcopal Register, a monthly journal of church affairs, which was published until 1853.This copy from the General Theological Seminary Library, Chelsea Square, New York. In a modern cloth library rebinding, with the institution's reference taped to the tail of the spine and to the rear board. Externally, very smart, with really only light rubbing and a couple marks to the boards. Library bookplates to the front and rear paste downs. Internally, archival repair to the original blanks, the front of which has failed, but remains present. Pages are toned slightly, with scattered spots throughout. The scarce Dublin-reprint of Dalcho?s Orations: ?Exceedingly rare and of considerable value. Dr. Dalcho was one of the original members of the A. and A. Rite of 33°, at Charlestown, U.S.A., and a very gifted brother of eminence Masonically and generally.? (Worcestershire Museum of Freemasonry) ?In 1801 Doctor Dalcho received the Thirty.-third and ultimate Degree of Sovereign Grand Inspector of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite " and May 31, 1801 he became instrumental in the establishment at Charleston of the Supreme Council for the Southern Jurisdiction of the United States, of which Body he was appointed Grand Secretary, and afterward Grand commander which latter position he occupied until 1823, when he resigned. September 23, 1801, he delivered an oration before the Sublime Grand Body in Charleston. This and another delivered March 21, 1803, before the same Body, accompanied by a learned historical appendix, were published in the latter year under the general name of Dalcho's Orations. The work was soon after republished in Dublin by the Grand Council of Heredom or Prince Masons of that city" and McCosh says that there were other editions issued in Europe, which, however, Brother Mackey had never seen.?
