Black and white plates in each part. This set of auction catalogues consists of nine (of fourteen) parts (I: Americana, II: Sporting Prints, III: French Engravings, IV: Stipple Engravings, V: English Mezzotints, VI: Nineteenth Century Prints, VII: Old Masters, VIII: Napoleon and French Revolution, and IX: French Prints of the Eighteenth Century). These nine parts cover 6,239 lots (a number of them consisting of multiple prints), with all the greatest artists on paper represented, including Bartolozzi, Fragonard, Tiebout, Rowlandson, Stubbs, Cruikshank, Baudouin, Bonnet, Saint Aubin, Cheesman, Watson, Valentine Green, Jacque, Haden, Whistler, Faithorne, Rembrandt, Durer, Goltzius, and many others. Frederic R. Halsey was a notable book and print collector (he sold his library to Henry E. Huntington the year before the commencement of these sales), attorney, member of the council of the Grolier Club and trustee of The New York Public Library. His collection of prints was estimated to hold about 10,000 items, the scale and scope of which would be near impossible to replicate today. With the neat stamp of F. E. Robinson of Summit, NJ (probably the art dealer firm) on the upper corner of each volume (except part II). A remarkably well-preserved and clean set (except for part I, which shows small dampstains and crease at the top area of the pages); small chip at the spine edges on a couple of the parts; very mild age toning at the edges. A rare unbroken run that would otherwise be difficult to assemble today, the more so in this overall, near fine condition.
